Working on the hack job that was done on my truck by the previous owner. What wire should I connect the remote wire from the amp to?

Here is a pic of the harness coming from the aftermarket stereo side. Do I use the solid blue wire coming from the radio harness?

Or should I splice the remote wire into the blue/white wire coming from the radio that goes to the solid blue power ant on the truck harness?

Dammit! I hate electric crap! :fml:

You need to use the wire coming off the radio that is for the remote turn on. Doesn't matter what color so you need the wire color for the head unit itself.

If I may add, the wire that Brian described wont be carrying major current, It just sends a trigger signal. so use judgement on the wire size. I'm not up on my wire sizes. Perhaps someone will chime in with a suggestion. Good luck.

Ok. I'll try the power antenna wire. I guess if I'm right the amp should turn off and on with the key.

Remote wires are blue in color in most harnesses, all a remote wire is for is to give a signal to turn on and off. I just use 18 gauge for this purpose.

Won't this wire lose power when CD mode is on which will kill power to the amp?

There should be a solid blue wire labeled amp.

Wire colors vary depending on manufacturer it seems, but yet there should be one specifically for the remote for the amp. As you said the power antenna wire will turn off when not on the "tuner" mode on head unit.

The signal wire is the blue one. If you are connecting up an aftermarket amp make sure the blue from the radio is going to is and also the all blue (possible white stripe) from the harness goes to it. The one in the harness is for your factory amp in the passenger side kick panel.

It was the blue with white stripe. Got everything hooked up and working great.

the remote wire is always blue. some manufacturers provide two blue wires, which requires one has a white tracer. the purpose of dual remote wires is one for amp, one for factory power antenna. it really doesn't matter which one you use.

glad you figured it out
