View Full Version : 2014 Possible NC Bid Poll

Ok Guys and Gals,

For those that don't know, a few of the North Carolina members are THINKING about possibly putting together a bid for the 2014 DRTC Nationals, but we are running in to a few minor snags. So I am asking members what they would like to see in the NC proposal. So we basically have 2 locations in which we are discussing.

Option 1)
Mopars at the Rock, Rockingham NC
Pro: Big Mopar Event, and Lots of 1/4 mile racing
Con: Rockingham is located in the middle of no where. Which puts the hotel location about an hour away from the event and even then there is not much around the hotel. Our fear is that after the show would be over, everyone would be standing around in the hotel parking lot with nothing to do.

Option 2)
Mooresville / Charlotte, NC
Pro: Now the upside to hosting the event in Mooresville is that Mooresville is "Race City, USA." The reason it is called that is because almost 90% of Nascar teams in the top 3 levels (Sprint, Nationwide, and Trucks) are located here in town, as well as numerous other racing series teams (sprint car, drag racing, indycar, lemans, touring). In addition to this there are numerous breweries/wineries, 3 competitive go-kart tracks, Nascar Hall Of Fame, US Whitewater Center, and more.
Con: It would only be 1/8 mile drag racing. I know that most racers don't like this but it is racing. We are hoping that we can schedule it with Zmax 4-wide Drag's Test 'N Tune. It's too expensive to rent out the facility for the day but they only do TNT on random Friday nights, and we have been having a bit of difficulty nailing them to a set schedule. But there is a Local 1/8 mile track that is very good and has a reasonable price range.

So in my opinion, I believe that we would be able to put together a better bid going the route of option 2 and having it in Mooresville with 1/8 mile racing and the hope of the 1/4 test 'n tune compared to Option 1 at Mopars at the Rock with 1/4 racing, but not much to do elsewhere in the area.

My truck is a car show queen, but I realize that not everyone likes the same things. So just because I don't push my truck hard doesn't mean that others don't want to feel the speed on the track. We NC members want to give the best show we can. We also don't want people to spend money on things that they don't have fun at, so that's why I am posting this poll. So let us know what you would like to see in our proposal and we will try to accommodate them all. If you have any feedback we would love to hear it.
Thanks
~James

NO We will never do another Mini Meet Nat's:nono:

It's 3 times the trouble, cost, logistic's. This was only done because of Durant failure if you missed it I'm sorry, find you local Rep and make a Bid for next year anyone can do this and the Exec Board will consider every bid for a Nat's

We are just putting the bid together at this point. The board decides where it will be located from the submitted. I make no promises that NC will even put one in this year. It will depend completely depends on the avaibility of the businesses we are trying to work with. We are hoping we can get all involved to cooperate but in the racing business secrets are what breeds championships. So they can often be reluctant to allow "outsiders" into their facities. But we are trying.

Since Mopars at the Rock continues to flounder, I'd vote for a Charlotte area idea as I think it has a lot more to offer as a total package. If a ZMax and Cars and Coffee weekend aligned, that'd be convenient.

You're looking at 3.5+ hours one way just to get into that area from CLT.

Any of the Blue Ridge Parkway close to that area ? We did it on Power Tour in 06 & it was really cool.

CLT or the Dragon? CLT to Blue Ridge can be done in about 2 hours. There's Hwy 80 which is super curvy and steep, which gets you to the Parkway. I guess that stretch of road is now known as the Devil's Whip, https://www.thedevilnc80.com/about80.html . It's 12 miles and climbs over 2000 ft, many near hairpin turns. Also gets you within 10ish miles of Mount Mitchell, the highest elevation east of the Mississippi River.

Something like that would be cool. Tail of the Dragon in a Hotchkis'd R/T was awesome. So anything similar would be a really good time.

I'm game for EITHER option. However, the Rock is going to be packed with other mopars (including the viper douche bags from last year), and for us to all line up together would be difficult. HOWEVER, I think the Rock option would be better for recruiting more minions, and kicking some other clubs ass, with much more car related events and competition. I think they are both great choices, I would hate to be the one to make the decision on this one, it's too close to call for me. Also, my hometown is an hour from Charlotte...so if ANYONE needs a place to crash or a rest stop, they are more than welcome.

Also, the AutoFair is always a big show...but mostly ONLY show. I was lucky enough to get to drive around the track for a bit, but I don't think anyone would want to be at a show instead of making bets on racing.

Here are some links to events I know of...

I would love to see that. But I believe that there are too many issues for that to happen.

1) It is crazy expensive to rent out "This Facility"
2) They rarely run 4 wide. For instance, they only use 2 lanes for TnT nights thru out the year. So might be a bit harder to set up, but we are trying.

I understand that Mooresville hasn't released next years schedule yet, so if you guys need a little extra time to prepare your bid, we're ok with it.

I didn't vote, but I'll do my best to make either location.

It used to rotate around from division to division. Now due to how complex it is and the fact that the club doesn't have the money to pay for our own venue, it is done by a div that puts in the proposal. Multiple Divisions can put in a proposal and the club execs then vote for the best proposal. The reason we did the 3 mini nats is due to the fact that the Oklahoma meet was a sham by Barry and was never really planned. We scrambled to get those meets together so that all the members of this great club wouldn't be as let down and feel that they were screwed as bad. There is a shit ton of work done behind the seems to put these meets on and three at once really strains the capabilities of the execs.

Hope this answers your question man, hopefully next year someone will lead the way on a nats meet out there for y'all. You don't have to be an exec to put in a bid for it either, Tim and Tom did most of the leg work for the Ohio nats.

"Never mine" was a joke from last night. James had to take matters into his own hands with someone we're dealing with. The guy kept saying "never mine" instead of "never mind" :jester:

As soon as I scrolled down I remembered you were in the Marines. I currently live less then a half mile from the front gate of Quantico.

Yeah no shit. I drive up to Belvoir and it's 19 miles to work. 23 minutes in the morning 2 hours in the afternoon. I get just over 20 mpgs on the highway but here in traffic? No. Maybe 12.5-14 mpgs.

I spent two summers in quantico back in 04 and 05, I went around DC on outer beltway, that was enough for me. I steer clear of that whole area.

If I go into the city I go early and leave early. I enjoy the museums and I go there to run.

Just so I keep everyone up to date. We have submitted our proposal with a few different options. So they will be voting on which weekend will work best for the club and what will give each member the most bang for their buck.
