It's a shame that virtually nothing out of that car will make it into the street version of the cars. Dodge has a great marketing machine but they absolutely SUCK at translating all of the hype into the real product - eventually some overly conservative engineer or a tightass bean counter gets involved and ruins a number of elements before it hits the showroom.

They made some changes, but most were for the good, IMO. I just don't like the wheels they are using.

I personally think it was really dumb of them to offer the first year as a limited production run with the current SRT-8 drivetrain - I'm sure it will help the stealerships go apeshit with the greedy markup, but it won't help the company's bottom line as much because not as many cars will be hitting the pavement.
IMHO Dodge absolutely positively has to produce the Challenger SRT-8 with a solid axle setup (instead of the Charger's IRS - either that or include much stronger half-shafts from the factory), factory posi (not available in the current SRT-8's), the ability to completely disable the traction control (or don't use it at all), the ability to change gear ratios (the 3.08 ratio with the 5-spd auto just doesn't cut it - can't change gears in current SRT-8's or traction control goes apeshit).

I've seen the picture before but they're claiming it to be a special factory package.

well two of those things are slated to be changed already. in '09 it's getting a posi in the rear (i dunno w/ or w/o IRS still) and it's getting 3.92 gear with the 6 spd. i the concept SS was already a solid-rear so it surely had a posi and higher numerical gears. also with it's special brakes i'm willing to bet traction control is gone. but who knows, that article doesn't say too much. but it looks like chry co is looking to make them so they can't be tagged for the street.

Only the 6-speed manuals (whenever they actually hit the street) are supposed to get 3.92 gears - the 5-speed autos are stuck with the current 3.08 ratio from the Charger SRT-8.
The big issue as I see it is that you can not change the gears at all with the current SRT-8's, the traction control goes complete apeshit if you alter the ratio. That's ignorant engineering in a performance car IMHO, and will be a really bad idea to carry over into the Challenger.

I should also point out that I'm only talking about the production Challenger. Who knows what they have in store for the "track only" models. The demo SS they have pictured on Allpar that's been making the rounds at the Mopar shows has very very little in common with the production Challenger.

You realize that the first production year (SRT8 Only) is only 3 months, its a 3/4 model year. They wouldnt be able to make full prduction speed anyway in a new interoduction 3/4 model year, so in reality, the "limited" prduction is just their way of saying "Ramp up year"!
And the changes tey are making from the concept to the production are ALL good in my opinion, the ones I have played with were absolutly AMAZING! Everything they did that was different from the concept is PERFECT, as a matter of fact, the changes were all GOOD changes in my opinion, you will all see in a few days at the Chicago Auto Show.:bling:
