How did you guys relocate your batteries? Any steps or how to do it?

Yes there are a few threads on here with great info. David (adobedude) and I have supplied some very good info in them. Try doing a search and if you come up empty handed I can start typing here...

1/0 Excelene(Spelling?) welding cable is a must. If you have a CC I would say order 25 feet or more. I went with 50 feet so I could make all new grounds and shit the oem garbage. Copper logs soldiered and sealed work the best. I used a Moroso kill switch that Adobedude uses. Has the two made lugs for power, and two smaller aux lugs. Going to use the smaller aux lug for your PSD shut off. Feel free to ask question, and I can take pictures if it helps.

I would appreciate that. T.I.A.

I'll be wrenching and under the truck tomorrow. My setup may differ from others but it's still the same ideas. I gotta say grounds are what make and break a system. I run the same welding wire to the back of the heads. Then two off the block to the frame. Then one directly from the battery to the frame out back. No sluggish starting at all.

For the kill switch do you just t off into it?

Here's a post of mine from an old thread:

I would highly suggest piecing it all together as you will save a TON compared to that Summit link that was posted. I don't recall what mine all added up to, but it was probably around a 1/4 of that Summit kit.

I used 1/0 welding cable ordered from eBay. Bought a bunch, and sold the extra to another member so he could relocate his battery as well.

I ordered 1/0 terminal lugs from another website, along with liquid flux, solder pellets, and adhesive-lined shrink tube (this stuff is great, it has adhesive inside that melts and totally seals the connection). It was my first time using the pellets, and they worked absolutely awesome for this application.

Here was my method: slip the lug into the vice, put a couple drops of liquid flux on the bare wire strands, put 1 solder pellet in the terminal, carefully try to heat the terminal and the cable at the same time (I held the cable next to the terminal while pre-heating it), then when you see the solder melt, slowly push/twist the cable into the lug while still keeping the torch on the lug.

I am fairly confident I avoided any cold solder joints, and they all came out extremely solid. Just to test the strength of the joint, when I made one of my new 1/0 ground straps, I was able to pick the entire vice up off the ground by the cable.

Also, if you plan on drag racing, make sure your cut-off switch works properly. Not only should it stop the truck from starting if its off, but it also needs to shut the truck off while its running. The best way to do this is with a switch that had a secondary disconnect, meaning it can also switch off another item. David "Adobedude" pointed me at Moroso part # 74102. It has a second set of prongs on the back, which we both tied into the ASD relay. It works great.

What kind of clamp did you use at the - and + post on the battery.

rule of thumb always have the ground wire the same size as the positive if not bigger

Was talking about the size of bolt going tru ground lugs. I'm thinking 3/8"

I think that's right for the starter lug, but it was so long ago that I relocated mine I can't remember for sure. I do remember ordering two different sized lugs, because the prongs on the back of my shutoff switch were bigger than the starter lugs.

I'm planning out the steps in redoing my basic battery wiring, and I have a question about these pictures:

Underside: https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/40169_609433184135_1661015_n.jpg

Back of switch: https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/39197_609433832835_6775614_n.jpg

What is that "switch"? Is that little a little piece that mounts to the frame and allows 3 points to mount the lugs on the end of ground wires? Is the first picture the other side of how it is mounted?

I see red and black wires on it so I'm thinking that this might be something more involved than just a thing for mounting ground wires. It is called a switch so I guess it must be doing some switching.

Good advice especially since the current flows out from the neg side to positive side.

That's the battery disconnect switch, read the threads.
