Porting it can be kinda difficult IMO, unless you keep it the same size at the valves. If you go bigger you'll have to make new valves. People use a 2" flapper wheel to remove the step in the TB bore....
IMHO The best thing you can do if you don't wanna fork out the cash yet for a bigger TB is shave the fins and junk off the top of the TB, and radius the top edge.... I did mine last year cause I was in the same boat, I didn't have the money to buy a good one so I spent 60 bucks on another stock TB and played with it. It's pretty easy.... all I had was a dremmel tool and some sand paper to smooth it out decently.
Here's what mine ended up looking like.....

I took my stock TB out to the limits of the bores. Basically, if I woulda went an wider I would have had to offset the centerlines of each bore so that there would still be metal in between them. When I did that, I had to manufacture new butterfly plates and that was a colossal pain in the ass. I used a mill to open the bores, deck the top flat, and radius in the opening edge of the bore, then I had to find a piece of stainless sheet metal that was the right thickness for the butterflies, and then us a hole saw that was much larger than I wanted them to be to cut two circles out. Then welded the circle to a piece of pipe, chucked that into a lather, and then turned the circle down to the appropriate size to close the bore off. Then part it off the piecce of pipe, and repeat for the second disc. Finally, back to the mill to put in the hole for the screws that hold the blades in the shaft. Total, it took me about hours of machine work. Since I had the machines at my disposal, it was free, but if I had to pay for shop time at a machine shop, that woulda run me way more than buying a new TB would have.

fastman makes a decent ported stock tb. Just throwing that option out there.

im not sure what he charges for a ported stocker, but the money is better spent elsewhere or on a whole new TB in my opinion. (with a little extra cash thron in to cover the difference) Now if one wants and can do the work themselves, it was a rewarding project and like was mentioned it does help a lot.

Fastman TB's are only like 250 bucks.....and you get a whole new TB that he has completely reworked, and he does a way better job than probably 95% of the people that try this
It's a great alternative for people that don't want to pay the ridiculous price for an F&B

Ridiculous price? They outflow the Fastman of the same bore, and they're made from billet aluminum. And last I checked, that $250 is only if you turn in you core.

Yeah it is after you turn in your core......and the F&B's do flow more, still not worth the money they charge for one for a lot of people

I hope I dremelled mine enough... have yet to install it, but since it only cost my time I figured I'd see what kind of effect a V8 tb with no horns and some radiusing would affect my basically stock V6... before I stepped up to a professionally done piece anyway...

Actually you don't get a whole new throttle body, you get one that he has worked over from someone elses stock core.
The prices for a new billet TB are pretty reasonable for our trucks. They run a lot more for other vehicles that I have seen. Several are over $1000. I understand it is a lower cost alternative for those on a budget, but performance parts are like a lot of things in life, you get more if you pay more.

yeah I mean new to you....my bad
but all I'm saying is for most people it's not worth paying more than twice the price. For some of you way higher performance guys it probably would be..... but if the guy is asking about porting his stock TB, I really don't think an F&B is for him..... so like I said a fastman is a great alternative
