ok so we bought a 2002 ford explorer back in like july/august. had about 85k miles. well, it rolled 100k around thanksgiving and the transmission started acting up. i took it to get the fluid changed (thinking that's what the problem might be) and they told me that there was fluid sprayed all underneath. so, i took it home and parked it. last week i finally had it towed to a shop nearby and they took a look at it. :worky:

here's the fun part...

This morning he calls to tell me I have no 2nd or 5th gear, burnt fluid and some metal peices in the pan. guy said it looks like the bands that hold all the gears together came apart. great. there goes any and all tax money i may be getting back. luckily he said he can get me a rebuilt trans. with a 1 year warranty installed for about $1800 + tax = ~$1950. that's still a crap load of money to me right now. i make just enough (barely) to get all the bills paid and my wife is in her last semester of school and with all her classes and student teaching, she hardly has time for a job of more than like 10 hours a week. this makes for one helluva belated birthday present...

sorry for the long post, i just needed to vent.

ps-i ain't never buying a ferd again.:finger:

Personally, I would find a used transmission in good condition, have it installed, and then sell it! LOL

yeah that's what we were thinking. plus, my wife has a mazda 3 that sounds horrible. one of the wheel bearings are going out i believe. its a constant "whomp whomp whomp" sound & I've had the tires rotated already. that's gonna be cheaper than buying a new trans. but cars suck lately!

Shitty thing is, I'm sure they called you after cleaning all the shit out. Not saying they're shady, but it's been known to happen!

nah the guy who runs the place is pretty cool. he fixed my jeep on christmas eve when they were closed. i told him to just let me know what's wrong with it before doing anything major. i just owe him like $75 for the diagnostics now, which i was expecting anyway.

find a junkyard near you and try to find a tranny. If you know how to swap em in would save you alot of cash. Get it running and use it or sell it

wife had a 2001 explorer, that's when the tire recall came out. Right after I paid for new tires, they told me that evidently I got my money's worth out of them if I bought a new set. Had to get my tire hook up to slap 3 exploded firestones and one with a sidewall bubble in his truck and drop them off at shittyvehiclesRus. then I got paid on it. Went round and round with them about it just shutting off for no apparent reason. They told me that wouldnt happen. I told them every time i drive it for more than 10-15 minutes it would just shut itself off, and would not start again for about 2 hours. The guy wrote it up as the vehicle starts fine. I asked them how long they test ran it, they said, 1 minute. I asked them about the other 9-14 and they said that if it didn't shut off after one minute it wasnt going to shut off after any more than that unless it was just shutting down for no reason (my original complaint) Then while driving away in a fit of rage, I pulled onto the frontage road and it died about a half mile from the dealership. I walked back and told them to go collect the fucker it was their problem. The paint peeled off the interior plastic trim pieces in the heat, the rear seats didnt lock in place so they bounced like jiggletitties going down the road, couldnt turn the radio up loud enough to drown that noise out (which was their service department suggestion) That fucker almost got to eat his computer for an early lunch. I just couldnt get over that 5' high counter fast enough.

My current work truck is a ford truck though and it has been decent enough but then I don't go to that dealership for much, but they remember me well enough when I do have to take it in for service. Old boy finds something else to do while I am there.
