Ok so here is another 1997-2004 Dodge Dakota VIN decoder...
I know, it's been done a few times, but there are always things that don't match or aren't clear, so I tried to redo it but more accurate... Hope this is better, even if some points might be not be totally clear...

Digit 1: (Country where it was built) 1 (USA) / 9 (Brazil)

Digit 2: (Companie who built it) B (Dodge 97-02) / D (Dodge 03-04)

Digit 3: (Vehicule type) 7 (Truck)

Digit 4: (Vehicule weight) F (4001-5000lbs)(RC 2WD or CC 4cyl.) / G (5001-6000lbs.)(RC 4x4 or CC 6cyl./8cyl. or 00 QC) / H (6001-7000lbs.)(01-04 QC)

Digit 5: (Drivetrain) G (4x4) / L (2WD)

Digit 6: (Trim package) 1 (Base model or SXT) / 2 (All 97-00 trucks any trim, 01 QC) / 3 (Sport or 98-02 R/T) / 4 (SLT) / 7 (03 R/T)

Digit 7: (Cab configuration) A (00-01 Quad cab) / 2 (Club cab) / 3 (97 Club cab) / 6 (Regular cab) / 8 (02-04 Quad cab)

Digit 8: (Engine size) K (3.7L) / N (4.7L) / P (2.5L) / X (3.9) / Y (5.2) / Z (5.9L)

Digit 9: (Check digit) Only a check digit, says nothing on the truck's info

Digit 10: (Year) V (1997) / W (1998) / X (1999) / Y (2000) / 1 (2001) / 2 (2002) / 3 (2003) / 4 (2004)

Digit 11: (Assembly plant) S (Warren, MI)

Digit 12 to 17: (Build sequence) The last 6 digits represent the build sequence of the truck

So this is as close as it gets... At least with what I've seen...

I'm curious as to how this number translates into a build sequence?

I'd like to know as well. Would be nice to know which number our trucks were on the line.
Some weird things like all 97 to 00 have a 2 as their 6th digit. Who knows what it really means?
