So My next project is to start cleaning the inside of the bed up. Starting with doing a False Bedfloor. I plan on doing it from the wheel well back.

Here it is now in Paint form.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/xloud9t5gmcsuvx/Dakota/ProjectFalseBedFloor/bednow.jpg

And basic idea of what I am doing.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/xloud9t5gmcsuvx/Dakota/ProjectFalseBedFloor/bed2be.jpg

I am going to reinforce the base TEMPORARILY with wood and then when its all said and done, do it with metal. I am making it easily removable for now, and may plan to do hinges and a bag to open it down the road. Who knows.

Here's the first step, the donor floor from my buddys old Dak bed.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/xloud9t5gmcsuvx/Dakota/ProjectFalseBedFloor/floor1.jpg

Shot of part of the hole I am covering, don't have any others, need to take more.

Not too proud of it. lol.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/xloud9t5gmcsuvx/Dakota/IMG00271.jpg

I plan on welding a peice to fill the drop in front, and then a smooth peice on the wheel wells in back to follow shaping. Also will relocate my rear tie downs to bed so I can haul stuff.

Then I plan on putting on a bedliner and then probably rubber seals to fill in the gap between the new floor and walls to give it more of a finished touch..

If theres any guys who can give me some feedback or tips, it would be greatly appreciated.

Tunnel I may do. Needs to be cut down
i measured out how big the tunnel for my gas door area has to be.
I may not put it in, or if I do, i'll make it bolt in so that way I dont have to weld it in and I can herculine it right away.

Looks like a fun project. I like how your using the stock bed floor to fill in the bed. I always see plain sheet metal used at truck shows.
Keep up the good work

that's cool man. im a big fan of innovative DIY stuff done cheaply that turns out like a million bucks. looks like you're on the way there.

one question though...

why not make the whole thing level instead of dropping off in the front?

I wanted to just do the most with less basically. figured by doing just that, it would give it a cool look, plus room for bigger stuff like coolers and my pedal bike and what not.

No progress on gas door. I may just do a box, because the tunnel I have isn't big enough, but I may make it work down the road.

I came to the conclusion I am going to Herculine the bottom of my tonneau cover now, and also am debating of puttin a Dodge, or Vertically-challenged logo in the middle of either...

thats looking cool! just wondering tho, why not cut the wheel wells open more like its a tub job along with what you are doing, so then you could have a huge sick tire in back to go with how low its gonna sit.

the axles are too wide to tuck anything usually. i got lucky with my wheels cuz i had them custom drilled at a really high offset n dont plan on going lower for a while.

Nice job! I also like the way you used the old bed floor instead of flat sheeting... Are you able to lift it back out or is it permanently mounted?
