I pulled off my driver's side air bag and decided to leave everything off...(except the wheel of course :nana:)

I pulled the wheel and clock spring and ground off the tabs used to bolt the cover on...I'll paint it wrinkle finish black and call it good...Then I started thinking, since there aren't any after market steering wheels for a 2001 up Dakota, why couldn't you cut off the spokes from the hub and bolt another wheel, like a Grant, to the two bolt holes used to pull the stock wheel off, if anything I think it would be stronger than stock, the stock wheel is just cast aluminum...The wrap on my wheel is going south any way, it's starting to crumble in my hands.

I'll get some pics for those whom have not seen a nekked steering wheel.

There's nothing out there for a 2001 up...2000 down you're good to go.

It is pretty straight forward to put an aftermarket column onto the stock support. Just two bolts up from the bottom. It will be lighter, safer and more straight foward.

I seen an AB R/T in a gas station parking lot with an aftermarket steering wheel. It can be done.

Yeah, but what year...?

I just painted my wheel...I like it, good enough for me and free, but if someone wanted to figure out out to mount an after market wheel on a 2001+...Just bolt the new wheel on the old hub.

AB...?

EDIT: DOH...AB is a color...No wonder I drive a red truck...It's a 3 letter word.

If he saw a 2001 with an after market wheel, it wasn't a bolt on.
