Is the power steering cooler really worth keeping???
As I am putting my truck back together it seems to me that dinky ass little cooler bolted to the engine block soaking up all the heat it can really couldnt do dick for cooling the power steering fluid off....that and I have cut my hands so many times on that muther f'er I would really like it gone....
Thoughts?

My truck never had one, altho, I did have the stock pump die on me, not sure if a cooler would have prevented that tho.

Hard to say - I just cant see how it cools anything - it fits in the palm of your hand or very close to it and its mounted to the engine block....and it was only an option with the HD cooling package - you would think if it was a major area of concern all the trucks would have it....
Also I have owned some fairly high performance cars from the factory - none have ever had it....
Main reason for wanting to make this decision is it affects how I will have my custom lines made - I am going to use earls pro lite 350 or equivalent for everything cause stainless braided stuff is like a chain saw, it cuts into ANYTHING it touches....

I plan on eventually ditching it and just putting a small cooler up in front of the radiator where it will get some air! :D

I never had one, and lived in some real hot weather in the past. Just keep good synthetic oil in it and you should be perfectly fine without it.

Excellent - I am having a professionally built chrome pump done up for me next week....also have a chrome rack that is going on with the pump.....plus some fresh lines using pro lite 350 hose....so I will just start it out with a good synthetic and hopefully never look back....
Thanks Barry....

Yup, Barry is absolutely correct. The synthetic PS fluid is all you will need.

NP, Sounds cool, get some pics when its done. I don't think I would have the patience to keep that clean. It rains to much up here to bother.
