I have an unloaded thunderform and i am looking at getting TWO 10" KICKER CVTs and i am not sure what works best with the thunderform. 2 ohm OR 4 ohm subs?...Aslo can my pioneer single channel 800 amp powers these TWO or do i need a 2 channel amp or bridgeable one. THANK YOU for the responses,.

what load (ohm rating) is your amp looking for ?

400 Watts x 1, at 2 ohms <= 1% THD+N
200 Watts x 1, at 4 ohms <= 1% THD+N.....exact one

i am willing to up grade my amp if it is not powerful enough for them but i just need to know about the speakers ohms first1

ok, if you're set on using that amp, buy 2- 4ohm speakers. Wire them in Parallel to give a 2 ohm total load. That'll keep your amp happy. Or, 2-2ohm speakers wired in series would also work, but you'd only be getting 1/2 the power out of the amp. With 2 similar speakers in parallel, the overall load is cut in 1/2. Wire those same speakers in series and the loads are added together. Follow me ?

thanks for your help, i just ordered 2- 4ohm speakers to save money by using my current amp. i will be wiring them like---> (http://www.caraudio.com/forums/general-discussion/232843-two-dual-2-ohm-cvrs-series-parallel.html) is this correct? and will both subs be running at 400 watts each or?

the subs will split the 400 between them. Other than those jumper wires, on each speaker, that looks like parallel to me. So, your 2-4s will give 2 ohms total load

you know what, now that I look at it, that looks like a series load. Do this hook the 1st speaker plus, to the amp plus. Do the same with the minus terminals. Then take the 2nd speaker and hook it's plus up to the plus lug of the 1st speaker, then do the same with the minus lug. That will be parallel for sure. :biggthumpup:

just like in this diagram --> (http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/2DVC_2-ohm_mono.jpg)---will[/url] do. My subs get here in a week will see how it goes thanks

yeah, except those little green jumpers (to me) almost look like it makes things serial. I've never seen speakers that use that little jumper deal. All of my bass amp & PA speakers only ever had one set of lugs. Maybe car audio components are different, I don't know.

The speakers shown in the diagram are dual voice coil speakers with 2 2ohm coils. The two coils are jumpered in series to make it act as a single 4ohm coil.
The two separate speakers are wired to the amp in parallel.
Because greyr/t said he ordered 4ohm speakers, he shouldn't have to deal with the jumper for a dual voice coil. Just hook both subs positive to the amps positive, and both negatives to the amps negative terminal.

there you go, dual voice coils. didn't know about that. so, does that mean you could hook up a dual channel amp (both channels) to one of those single speakers ? one channel to each pair of lugs ?

You could, but it's not a good idea. Because both coils are controlling the same cone, you don't want to have any conflicting input caused by channel variation. The dual voice coil is mostly made to give you more options in series, parallel, or combination wiring in order to match the amps ratings with any number of subs and the overall goal of the system. You get more wattage at lower ohms, but you can achieve higher quality sound at higher ohms- that's why high end home theatre is often 8 ohm systems, but super-thumper sound drag systems are often 1 ohm.
Here's a couple examples of wiring options with DVCs
