ok. I'll do my best to be as accurate and truthful as I can here.

but..I must admit, I've pissed off a guy who lives down around the corner, and I want to push his buttons because he's mentally unstable.


this might get long. I like to be descriptive:finger::jester:



so, about 2 weeks ago, I was taking my son for a ride in the truck. they both love it. well, on the way home, I came to a stop sign, turned left, and had about a half mile to the next left turn.

This half mile run is on a former US highway before they built the express way a mile to the south that runs parallel to this road, so it's a nice, wide, both lanes painted and wide enough for semi-truck traffic--just pointing out that it's not your normal "back country road" that's barely a lane and a half wide.

I pulled out slowly, got straight, and nailed it. ran it at WOT through the top of 3rd gear, which is about 70-75mph. I immediately lifted and started slowing down for my next left turn to head back home. as I'm slowing down under engine braking, this guy comes running out towards the road shaking his fist at me. I blip the throttle as I go by. I left it in gear and didn't touch the clutch, so it's not like I revved the engine at him. I just stabbed the gas pedal for a second so that the engine sound went from engine braking to making power back to engine braking. I continued slowing down and made the left hand turn and drove on home.

last Friday, on my way to FedEx to ship a bunch of crap that I just sold. again, my kid is with me. this time, as I'm heading into town Im making a right hand turn and going past the guys house.

I did the same thing I always do. pull out, then go WOT run it up through 3rd gear, hit 4th to bleed off 10-15 mph, and then on into 5th to cruise at the speed limit on into town. the kid loves it!

as I went by the guys house, there was nobody outside, the mini-van was parked next to the house. ...well, about a mile or 2 down the road, I see that now he's behind me. ok. odd. gives me an uneasy feeling. I check to see if he's following me, and I don't go onto the freeway around town, I go through town. he stayed with me. Ok, time to start making random turns, he stayed with me. ok, a trip around the block in a big circle. he stayed with me. ok. now I'm pissed, this guy is apparently mentally unstable and I have no idea what his thought process is. if I didn't have my kid with me, I'd pull over and step out to see what he does, but I'm not stopping and allowing him to possibly approach me and the truck with my kid there with me. I'm not going to try to "out run" him either, because that's just stupid and unsafe.

Ok, I'll take the next road out of town in a different direction. if he still follows me, then I'll call the authorities and ask for some assistance. Just as I'm about to go out of town, he pulls over to the side. then a police cruiser zooms up behind me and lights me up.

Apparently the man in the minivan called the sheriff as he was following me because he wanted them to write me a ticket, because I was "spinning my tires, and sliding sideways out of control"

When the city cop told me this, I laughed and said 'nope. that didn't happen. if you want, we can go back to the road and I'll show you. there's no black marks in the road because I didn't spin my tires.' he said 'well, I don't really care, if I didn't see it, I can't do anything about it. I'm just going to run your license and registration to make sure you're current"

so, before you guys get the wrong impression, I'm not upset at the LEOs. in fact, I'm glad he had already called them, because I was about to call them myself. THey were just doing their job and following up, and I'm sure the only reason they responded to the call is because the guy told them on the phone "I'm following this guy..." and they knew that if they didn't take action, it wouldn't end well.

They're right. had my kid not been with me, I'd have stopped and confronted the guy.

Anyway. so now I know the guy's pet peeve, and he pissed me off. I wanna fuck with him.

I need an exhaust cutout. electrically controlled. so I can open it up and run by his house at WOT on open headers. then once I'm passed, close it back up so that when he calls the cops, they can hear my truck and I can say "well officer, yea, it is louder than stock, but it's not THAT loud....that guy has issues":jester::finger:

I hear ya and I understand your frustration. The guy sounds like a nut case for sure and is willing to make his point to you any way he can thus the LEO deal. If you keep egging him on, which I'll have to admit I'd probably keep pushing his buttons too, you may get up some morning and find your truck keyed, windows busted out, tires slashed, sugar in the gas tank, etc. and like the LEO said...if you didn't see him do it then he can't be arrested. Just saying.

Ok Mr Moral police...
a WOT blast up to the speed limit (and a little over briefly while I then slow back down to the speed limit) in a straight line on a non-busy, yet very wide, smooth, well maintained road with good visibility, without spinning the tires or "drifting" is not going to hurt my kid...it's not going to hurt anyone.

stopping to confront someone following me has unknown consequences, none of which really turn out well.


even if you try to argue that "WOT is never under control, what if the throttle sticks, or the brakes fail, or...." yea, and again, the same thing can happen in any vehicle at any time....just as a Toyota owner. mechanical failures can happen to any vehicle regardless of what you're doing. Anyone with any kind of driving training will know what to do in such case. brakes fail? downshift and use the parking brake. all else fails, start weaving to scrub speed, and find a guard rail to side swipe and scrub off your speed. throttle sticks open? step on the clutch and the brake. or pop it to neutral, turn the key off, several ways to remedy that situation.

so I hardly see how there's any paradox here. taking my kid for a ride and accelerating hard up to the speed limit in a straight line vs stopping to confront an unknown stranger who's following me with unknown mentality, unknown intentions....

the whole point of this post was to share a story with everyone, about how I was out minding my own business, enjoying my hobby with my son, showing them that it's possible to have fun responsibly and not go street racing, speeding, drifting, etc. that it's ok to have Hp, but to use it responsibly...when someone decided they needed to take action because they don't like it, and follow me, while calling the police.

I kind of thought that most guys here would be sympathetic a little bit, since just about everyone here has either already done mods to their truck to make them faster, or they want to do mods to their truck to make it faster. I figured everyone here has done the same thing, countless times, and felt that a WOT blast through a few gears that lasts maybe 10 seconds before establishing a safe steady cruise at the speed limit, was perfectly ok and doesn't hurt anyone.


Guess this whole story didn't go over quite the way I thought it would.

Anyway, you may all continue to bash me now telling me how dumb I was, how unsafe I was, what a paradox it is to be worried about my kids safety while at the same time "hot rodding" around with him, and how I'm being passive aggressive.

I have an odd sense of humor, and I'm sarcastic by nature. combine that with typed words on an internet forum where you can't SEE tone of voice, body language, etc. and I can see how my post was taken as being completely serious and I was plotting and pre-meditating to harass this guy. the "i need exhaust cut-outs so I can blow by with open headers" was like saying "naw, man what you NEED to do is get twin turbos and nawz and make 1053 hp" or when guys stand around their cars at the track talking to each other and one of them says "you know, what you need to do is..." even though nothing ever comes of it.

When I went by his house, as I've done hundreds of times before, I had no indication that I was harassing him. he lives between me and town, so anytime I go anywhere, I drive by his house. I've lived here 3 years. now all of a sudden I'm harassing him. nothing was pre-meditated. a week ago or whenever it was, when he was pumping his fist at me, I thought was a fluke. never saw any kind of behavior like that from anyone at that place. when I did it again Friday night and he came out to follow me, I certainly didn't do it because I wanted to piss him off. I did it because...well, that's what I do. I don't do it to be an asshole. I do it because I like the way my truck sounds. It's fun to drive. I enjoy it. I don't go about my day thinking up ways to piss off the people who live around me. I didn't give a second thought to that guy or the house, until I saw the van pull out in my mirror, and watched him fly up behind me at a high rate of speed, then slam on the brakes and stay behind me. at which point I thought "what is that guys problem?!"

Passive aggressive? Not here. To me, someone who is passive aggressive is someone who gets angry, but lacks to cahones to step up and do something about it. instead of confronting an issue head on, they skirt around it and toss stones at it while running away. Like I said, I've done my share of fighting. I don't back down, but I don't go looking for a fight, or to cause problems. Just don't back me into a corner with no way out.

Anyway, I've known about this forum for awhile, but never bothered to sign up because I didn't have a "real R/T" but was asked/invited and told I should sign up, by one of the other paid members here. on a side note, I'll point out that the exhaust on my big block had manual cut-outs on it, but I never did run it "open" they're still sitting on the shelf out in the shop too. since I never opened them up, even at the track, I didn't see the need to put them on the small block truck.

See, I might be a dick, but at least I try to be a considerate one.

not on this truck. they were on the big block truck. and they were manual, crawl under it with 2 wrenches to open it up or to close it.

Huge wedding, giant tents, catered food, band...a million cars....All speeding up the road. I was trying to get my truck ready for a car show, muffs were off and my garage doors faced the ass holes house. It got stupid quiet, I could see the wedding ceremony going on, Bride and Groom doing what they do...I opened the garage doors, started the truck with open headers and let it rip....

I know I'm on the video, I could see the guy with a camera on a tripod...

Long story short...Cops were called several times over the years, and that ass hole refused to meet me in the street, all he would do is call the cops....It's all good now, we wave with one hand a flip off each other with the other.

mom was downstairs doing laundry. I opened the door because I could reach it. I fell down the stairs because I couldn't walk.
