I need to replace my tires and i was wondering if anyone has some recommendations. I currently have 255/55 R17 Dunlop Sport Rover GTX's, but i wanted to see what my options are and i have not found very many company's that make 255/55 R17's. Are there any other sizes that would look good on a factory height R/T? Any recommendations and pictures would help. Thanks.

275/50/17 Nitto or Falken

What will the difference be as far as size between these and stock size?

The sidewalls are a tad smaller. If you're looking for an all-season tire then I'd recommend Kuhmo ECSTA STX in 255-50-17. If you want more of a summer performance tire, Riken Raptors are awesome in that same size.

The 275/50 is the same height as the stock 255/55, just a tad wider. The 255/50 is about an inch shorter than stock 255/55, and to me, it just doesn't look right on a stock height truck.

I'm running the nitto 450's in 275/50-17.You really can't even tell the difference between a new nitto 450 and a new goodyear RSA,they are that close in size. The nitto is fairly priced too,at about $150 a tire (installed, tax and all)

I'd also recommend the raptors, when I had them in the front the truck handled really nice, with them in the back it cuts 2.001 60's

The 255/50s won't look right on a stock height truck. I'd either step up to a 275/55 or a 255/60 tire. I ran a pair of the Dunlop Sport SP5000s in the 255/60 size on the rear of my truck for a couple years and they works pretty good. Personally I'd stay away from the 275/50 or the stock 255/55 size since the options are few and the prices reflect it by usually being more expensive than you you go to a +1 or -1 size tire. If you want to stick to the stock size, www.tires-easy.com (http://www.tireseasy.com) has good prices on the Maxxis Marauder

Or the Federal SS-595

Both are summer tires though if that makes a difference for you.

What do you want out of your tires?? What is more important to you?? Performance, long life, wet traction, dry traction, looks, price, availability, or the place you can buy them from

I've had the falkens and the nittos nt 450's. I believe the falkens may last a tad bit longer and are slightly quiter that the nittos. But the nittos have a good bit more grip and are a few bucks cheaper. The nittos also have a higher speed rating of 149mph compared to the falkens 130mph. I would buy the nittos over the falkens but both seem like a good tire. I have no comment on the toyos b/c i have never ran them.

Is that what is on your truck in your sig pic? If so, that doesn't look "just fine" to me. That's alot of gap! :jester:

that much gap on a cc would just look plain out mexican. Its kind of ok on a reg cab but i'd prefer a little more meat or get that dude down a couple of inches.

I'm kinda leaning towards theToyo PROXES S/T 275/55 R17 109V http://www.discount-tires-2go.com/St...ue&SnipID=5728

Any body have any experience with Toyo tires?

And will i run onto any rubbing with the 275/55 sizing?

are you lowered. If so the rear will be fine but the front may rub a little on large bumps but nothing major i wouldn't think I think those tires are right at 29inches tall.

You probably won't rub being stock height, but I always think of that size looking like something that would float! :jester:

No not lowered just stock height. I just want a good quality tire that will look and perform good and not leave a big gap.

The 275/55 will close the gap, but the sidewall, IMO, is too big, and will have a negative effect on handling. More sidewall = more roll in the corners. It won't be horrible, but noticeable. I think the 275/50 is the best on our trucks whether it's stock height or lowered. But again, that's just my opinion.

Right on. Is your truck stock height or lowered? Does anyone have any experience with the federal ss595's?

I have a friend in Cali that runs them and is happy with them Federal's. No personal experience. They are a super soft tire, so don't know about how long the tread life is. You can easily sink a fingernail into the rubber in the tread.

As for the 275/55s, I think you will be happy with them on a stock height truck. Shouldn't have any rubbing as long as your shocks are still good and they won't be too big. I ran the 275/55 Pirelli Scorpion Zeros when they were available. They had great strightline traction. You could feel them roll over slightly in corners, but you had to push the truck hard to notice it. And they filled the wheel well nicely.

Here's some pics of my truck with the 275/55 tires on it. This is with a Hotchkis drop as well. Had to "trim" the front fenders to keep them from rubbing badly.
