It's probably just the switch...?

Does the passneger side switch have the double down throw? I feel like mine has two down detents for this feature, and the passenger side doesn't. I would get two spare driver window switches and go from there.

I have wondered if its the switch itself or something in the CTM

The switch is different and the circuit board it mounts to may also be different. I'll try and look at some spare switch assemblies I have and see what the differences are.

It's just the switch that makes it auto down.

So can they be wired together?

I finally had a chance to take some photos of the switches for a 2000 Dakota. On my trucks it does not appear that you can just swap switches and make the Passenger Side have the auto down feature. Earlier years (97-99) and later years (2001-up) may have different switches.

The Driver Side switch panel is on the left and the Passenger on the right.

The window switches are the bottom switches. The switches are completely different on the Driver Side with more contacts to the circuit board, 5 versus 3 on the Passenger Side. The Auto Down function is controlled by the relay on the Driver Side that is missing from the Passenger Side.

Pretty sure the '97-'00 switches are all the same. I know the ones from my '99 fit my '00.

there may be a aftermarket solution to it, i can see it being to much trouble

I know a lot of aftermarket alarms can be set up to allow rolling the windows up and down the the alarm remote so can't see why you couldn't get something hooked up for an auto up/down from the switch. As mentioned, might be able to do it by simply splicing the wires together, but then you would never have individual control over each window.

You might be able to add a jump on the driver's side switch board so that only when the autodown contact is pressed- w/e it latches triggers both sides. You'd have to do some digging with a DMM and the board exposed while wired into the truck to see what all is going on.

if you wired a delay-on-break relay to the pass window switch, it would be an express down, but it would be every time you click it. If you only want the window partway down, you would have to click down, then roll it back up partway.

You could also wire the delay-on-break relay to a second button, the button would be express down, and the factory switch would function normally.

i was thinking along the same lines, it might take a little work, but it cant be that hard
