I just replaced the upper radiator hose and went to a 180 thermostat and did some minor cleaning up. Since I wanted it up to temp and pressurized to check for leaks I decided to play with the IR gun a bit.

Some interesting numbers - and so much for a 'cold air' intake, at least just sitting and idling...

Slideshow is here (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v619/MikeEast/2011/2003%20Dakota%20RT/Playing%20with%20the%20IR%20gun/?albumview=slideshow)

Here's a couple of pics..

If that CAI has a metal pipe, you should have checked that, as it is sitting right on top of your exhuast manifold.

i love dogs.I was never a dog person until my xSO got a Maltese/Poooodle mix and I discovered that little dogs have a lot to offer compared to a large breed.

Diego is my 9/11 dog - picked him up 9/11/06 from the County Humane Society - someone gave away a perfectly good little dog. He's my best bud, doesn't flinch at dyno days, loves riding in the car/truck and comes when I call him. What more can I ask? Heck I'd like to find a woman who can do that...

He's is a 8 year old Maltese/Shih-Tzu mix, 15lbs of loyal happy fun...

You mean like this one?

I'd imagine that with the hood closed, at a reasonable speed that it would be a tad cooler, but not by one hell of a lot. The 'shield' that came on it was useless, as are most of them.

I wouldn't mind having a shaker hood setup on this one, makes more sense here than on the Magnum.

No I mean the metal tube above the exhaust manifold, not the filter.

No I mean the metal tube above the exhaust manifold, not the filter.I knew what you meant, that's the closest I got to the tube and I'm figuring it was easily 150 or so as the side of the filter closest to the manifolds was that hot.

Too damn hot in any case if it's sucking in 150 degree air.

Take it to a circuit track and hit the brakes with the IR gun!

I suspect it's hotter than the filter and plastic airhat, so the CAI is actually further heating the air it sucks in. Extending it to draw from the fender and/or a heatshield would help.
