i finally got the time to pull the motor and trans, had quite a few issues so my best choice to just to pull both to fix the issues. started last sept or oct' but ran into some life issues that left me no time.

plans are motor first
have the motor checked over mostly the bearings
repaint the block and heads
have the cam degreed and checked
heads are currently bein check over by a machine shop and bein redone

next would be the trans
adjust the bands
send martin my POS aps racing valvebody
replace front and rear seal
fix some pan bolt holes that are stripped

few things different when it all goes back in
pph headers
2bbl m1
complete exhaust 2.5 down pipes, 3" single to 18" magnaflow
mopar 14" open element
and for what it already has, eq heads SS 2.02 int/ 1.65 exh valves and .600 springs, 52mm fastman tb polished, sct, 210x cam and harland sharp 1.7 RRs

might re freshen the front of the frame but there really isnt any point since there isnt any rust or dulling

few pics taken so far

For a little more money you could take a cartridge roll to the chambers to get rid of that step and mill the heads, say .010, to compensate if you only clean up the chamber. Keeping the material removal to a minimum minus the step from the cutter.

the shine above the seats is where the steps were removed with the seats bein opened for the larger flow of the 2.02/1.65 valves, but i would mind gettin the exhaust ports glass smooth but im not sure if it would be worth it in the run. heads were shaved for surface cleaning.

lookin to have it running sometime this month, got to finish up the trans still and swap out the heater core before it all goes back in.

no hole underneath lol i had a bad powersteering leak for 2-3 months -rarely driven- i couldnt find before i tore it down hence the no grass, the leak was actually the the pump's front seal

Looks good man, is that the "chrome" paint on the manifold/ac compressor?

Addicted2Blue00
03-12-2012, 01:46 AM
couldnt find any "chrome" paint or any paint to match the IB that could withstand engine bay heat so i used the same paint i used on the headers, semi-chrome look. the a/c and alternator are polished, no pic but the taylor blue plug wires look good with the semi-chrome.

i want to hurry up but then again tryin to take my time so i dont screw something up.

Looking good Brad! I know you're excited to get everything back together and fired up for the first time. Been a long time coming. :rockwoot:

Use some of the Busch Aluminum Polish on the cover plate on the back of the alternator and it'll shine like a piece of chrome!!

That 0000 steel wool on the AC lines first cuts all the crud off and then the Busch polish will make it shine like a piece of chrome. Clean your rims with a Brillo or SOS soap pad first and then a good coat of wax. You'll definitely say HOLY SHIT!! :rockwoot:

already had all the fluids but wanted to wait til i actually had some time to play after adding the fluids.

ive always been told when first starting a motor to run straight water til warmed up then dump and mix water n antifreeze, does this seem right?

new heater core and all new gaskets

wyotech_cuda440
05-18-2012, 02:11 PM
I was always told that with a fresh engine build, you should run straight water for the first week, just in case there's any leaks or the motor had to come apart for any reason.

Because antifreeze is slippery and greasy, it can get on gaskets and seals and cause them to not seal up right.

thanks everyone, got to get the truck re-registered and itll be off to the exhaust shop, it does sound alot better with the pph headers over the cheapo shorty headers that were on it

tryin to go a little more quiet on the new exhaust so the plan is 2.5" off the headers to a magnaflow Y pipe and 3" out to a round 24" long magnaflow muffler

Addicted2Blue00
05-23-2012, 10:36 PM
will be goin with 2.5" off the headers to a y pipe and single 3" to the muffler then a turndown. muffler is a magnaflow 24" XL to TRY to stay on the quiet side
