Unplug the negative terminal on your battery first.
And you'll have to start running premium fuel.

There was a list of about 23 steps that needed to be done prior to the install of the new PCM. One of the steps was some kinda rain dance and I think a lamb had to be sacrificed.:D:goodluck:

So after it is installed nothing else has to be done? With no other mods do you feel the Mopar PCM will help? IT does have a high flow cat and i will be installing a cold air intake

It's gonna take a few more airflow mods for it to shine, it's gonna be rich on a relatively stock truck, but it will still help and be faster. go for it. :drive:

A 180 thermostat will help too.

the trans is electronically controlled and shifts way early in stock form.
The computer adds a few hundy in the rpm range and cuts out the a/c compressor for added performance.

They werent $450 when you could buy them over a dealers parts counter.
Id look around the classifieds.
Low 14s with a cold air and computer? Not unless you're getting a rolling start!

$450 sounds right(actually i thought it was more).I say if you can find a new one then buy it because they're becoming rare.here is a list of some of the things it changes.
changes shift points from 4800rpm to 5200rpm
changes rev limiter from 5200rpm to 6000rpm
changes top speed govener from 112mph to ???mph
adds more timing and fuel to the engine

wow... even in 2000 when I had my old truck I paid like $315 at the parts counter with no special discount.
A year ago they were all over the place for less than $100...lol

I have the Mopar PCM and am not all that happy with it, doesn't seem to run any differnt than the stock unit. Thinking of sending my stocker over to get a B&G Flash done, hearing that is much better with a M-1 intake, larger TB, cam swap and a couple other mods.

FWIW, my SCT flash was much better than the B&G flash that I had. If you are doing the whole heads/cam top end thing, you might want to consider that. Sell your MP PCM and get some scratch to cover part of the SCT flash.

You have those mods now? It won't do much for a stock truck, neither will a flash.

Yes, I have those mods. I am currently running a K&N Cold Air, Holley 52mm, M-1 Intake, after market cam (don't remember the numbers off the top of my head), Roller Rockers, Mopar Headers & spintech exhaust, MSD Digital 6 ignition, Mopar PCM and nitrous.

WOW The Mopar PCM should have done alot for that setup. I did my pcm first so I didn't feel I got the full potential out of most of my mods. Until I swapped the stock one back in, then the difference was very noticeable. I don't think you'll see much of a difference with a flash though, so maybe the SCT is for you.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I did the PCM as one of the early upgrades, however last weekend I put in the stock PCM and it put down more rubber without the spray and seemed faster? Hence why I was thinking of getting rid of the Mopar and going to something different.

Well, I kinda noticed the same thing. But top end suffered greatly on mine. I think with the cam, you would benefit greatly being able to fine tune it.

So after having a Superchips programmer and now a Hypertech only because I picked it up used for $100 with a K&N on Craigslist.com and had a chance to recoup my $300 on the other and I can't tell an ounce of difference between the two set at the max power settings.
So would there be any reason to pay $450 for a Mopar part other than having it there so the dealer can point fingers at it when something goes a hay wire. All to often in my career there are a lot of entry level techs at dealerships who can't look past seeing a sticker on the back glass as an excuse why they can't figure out whats wrong.
I had a similar concern when I had a ASE tech rebuild my trans as it was throwing error codes from the Hypertech but it turned out to be a grounding out regulator. Tranny was hammered though and I can say he knows his way around the 46re if anyone locally he in Phoenix needs their's rebuilt I can hook you up. Charges a lot less than scary larry's tranny shops in town and he is the only one the managers at Bill Luke will use for their own vehicles. But any rate I rammble... anyone actually know the HP and Torque numbers produced between the three using free flow exhaust and air intake of course.

The Mopar PCM will out perform the so called "tuners" any day.

so...really what's so special about the mopar PCM? How does it differ from our 'stock' pcm's? does it have a 'federal' tune vs a California tune?
Just curious seeing as a new programmable PCM from MOPAR is $2450 in the MOPAR catalog, where everyone got that wonderful 350 or lower price
