I was wondering what set of lifters i should get. I have one tapping so its time for a mild cam and a new set of lifters. What are your veiws on the mopar performance ones. I'm trying to get a set for under 200 bucks. I can't afford to get upgraded heads at this time but i am planning on doing the mopar .600 springs and retainers. With a cam something along the lines of a 210.

Ask Danno if he has a set of his lifters laying around.

I take it that you have eliminated the possibility of an exhaust leak?

yep no exhaust leak that i can find. I'm pretty sure its a lifter going bad at first start up it will tap then once warmed its a little more faint sounding but if i give it a quick rev it will tap louder for a second then quiet back down. Its almost like the lifter is not holding enough pressure and won't stay pumped up under heavy throttle.

Well, it does sound like the symptoms of an exhaust leak. Before you go to all the trouble to replace a lifter, you would be well advised to grab a wrench and try to tighten every bolt, collecotrs included.
Also, I don't know what kind of headers you run, but my old set of Mopars had a leak where the tube joins the flange that bolts to the head. A buddy of mine spotted it by the black soot mark on the chrome of the pipe.
Does it run badly, or backfire?
If it's not an exhaust leak, it could also be a bent pushrod, so be sure and check those before going deeper into the motor.
Just trying to help you get it sorted out on the cheap, good luck!

If you need a cheaper route for lifters I have a set coming out of my motor as I am swithing to Danno's lifters.
Will sell them for $100.00

well i did a compression check today it didn't look to good. I have 45psi, and 60psi on the #3and#5 cylinders the rest were 110-130. But the two with the low pressure is right where the ticking sound is coming from which leads me to believe its a lifter issue b/c once they get oil pressure they are probably actuating the valves fully or almost b/c i do not have a miss or poor idle quality. It doesn't smoke or burn oil either. I will know what it is by the end of the weekend. Thanks for the help guys i'll keep you posted.

didn't you just have a nitrous backfire ? I'm thinking you have more wrong than just lifters.

Do you just put adjustable rockers on there? Might have to adjust them. It sounds like they are too tight. Did you pop a valve cover on that side? See if the valves look straight too...

i have the harland sharp 1.7non adjust rockers. Whatever was tapping before the nitrous backfire is still tapping now. The thing is the truck runs pretty much flawless good oil pressure, plently of power, just an annoying tapping sound. The motor revs perfect doesn't stumble or miss.

You're going to have to go back and do the compression check again, only this time, put a cap full of oil into each of the 2 weak cylinders and try the test again. Hopefully the numbers don't go up, because that means there a ring, or piston problem.
How did the plugs look on those 2 cylinders, compared to the other 6?
Has the running engine temperature changed?

All of the plugs looked great. You would figure on the two cylinders with the low compression they would be all fouled out and if the rings were gone i would have oil residue on them but they didn't show any signs of that either. The temperature stay rock steady right pass the first little tic on the gauge. I checked my oil (no water and not burnning any). I checked the water and i'm not missing any. So i can pretty much rule out a head gasket.

As Chris mentioned, I do have a set of Danno's lifters that didn't go into my 425. They have about 1,000 miles on 'em. Let me know if you want 'em.
