Let's say you could order a custom part for your truck - a center console. Something that looks stock to the casual observer, but with a few extras.
What features would you like to see?
Disclaimer: this question is only for 1998-2000 owners, as that's the year I'm starting with. Other models will be offered as I can get access to one for molding.

If you are planning on making something - I would forget all the other bullshit and go straight to the floor shifter - thats what 90% of the people want is a nice floor shifter insert or console. The rest of the stuff anyone can add :)

I like the cooler/refrigerator idea, a floor shifter is a must, I already have that, and cup holders would be nice, my floor shifters took them, illuminated is a nice bonus.

I would like a console that is similar to the newer (2009 and up) Rams with a cool shifter not the same old, same old. An armrest that is actually big enough for two peoples arms would be nice.

Yes - agreed - but the Dak only has 9" clearance between the seats. Armrest will be wider than stock for sure, but I think you'll both need 2b skinny in order to occupy the armrest at the same time...
Shifter selection will be on the end user. The RAM shifter is built for the auto/stick thing (P R N D +/-) and is likely unusable in the Dak.
I have in mind something *similar* to this:

After further progress it has become obvious that I will need to pick a shifter and build around it for the prototype (I was hoping to do a universal fit as far as the shifter is concerned).
I'm leaning towards the B&M Hammer, as it fits the style better, has a lit gear indicator, and is a good compromise between the huge triggers of the Quarter-Stick style and the vertical gate of the Quicksilver style. The Hammer is the one Darren used in Sidewinder; it looks great and flows well with the truck's interior.
Let me know what you all think regarding this . (For those who have other shifters, I can do a flat-top based on the Hammer console, but you'll need to source any required riser locally)

The hammer shifter is the only one I would consider - low profile - nice looking - and like you said flows with the interior the best out of any of the shifters I have seen. That being said I dont know about functionality of it but I will always take a part that looks better as I wont be racing my truck that much if at all.

The hammer is about the best out there for looks.
There are better shifters out there but as has been pointed out, they don't exactly have LOOKs going for them.

I had the Hammer Shifter in my '77 Chev and liked it a lot. I have a B&M Megashifter in my R/T and, functionally, I prefer the Megashifter over the Hammer Shifter a ton!
It doesn't look as nice, but I absolutely love the way it works.
