i raced a lightning

on my way home from school today, me and my buddy raced a couple of times. the first one was at a light. we both spun and i guess he let off because he didnt catch up. the next light, we both staged and we both spun again and he gained like 3-4 car lengths on me till 85. both races i couldnt get out of first because it bouced off the limiter and had to feather it. hes got some performance mods like pulleys, exhaust, computer and a dyno tune. and i dont think i did that bad. he dyno'd like 400 rwhp and 480 tq. i only have intake and full exhaust. cant wait to get more mods and get it to shift out of first!!

yeah, I hate not being able to stay in the throttle and having it shift on it's own to 2nd. I should have kept my 99 R/T, one cat, not three like this one and shifted like a dream.

yaa i wish it shifted. if i get the valve body from the fastman then it should shift no problem, right?? ive tried to adjust the tv cable with no luck.

If the driver has any skill.... he should lay waste to your truck pretty easily.
At the track the Lightning is prolly a low/mid 13sec truck with the mods you describe.
Ive raced a couple in my stock truck and held them off enough to claim victory in the 1/4. Im sure with a decent driver in the L.. the outcome might have been different

A new valvebody with all new sensors seems to be the only real way to solve the problem. I bought my truck off the original owner who had it 3 years and only put on 16k miles. Truck was like brand new. I was able to get the 1-2shift at full throttle until it hit 23k miles. It would actually bark the tires going into second sometimes. I now have 86k miles on it. I called the fastman last year and it was somewhere around $300.00 for a new valvebody minus the sensors. It's the route I'm going to go, hopefully soon.

When I had my 99 R/T I actually picked it up used at a Ford dealership. I put on an M1, computer flash, headers, exhaust, etc. It ran a best of 13.7 and the track with slicks. One night around 2am this black Lightning pulls up next to me and the guy says nice truck, I say the same to him. We race off the light and our trucks were neck and neck until 70mph when we both let off. Then we race from a roll twice, with me a fender a head of him for one of the runs.(Lightning was stock) Anyway, we pull over at white castle and start talking. He's like, I had an R/T just like this but it didn't sound like yours. I'm like did you trade it in at the Ford dealer in centerline. Long story short, my truck was his old truck. He was so sad and happy at the same time. The R/T was paid off for him, and now he's like I just got run by my old truck and it kept up with my Lightning that I pay $640 a month for. God I miss my 99 DA R/T

hahaha. thats great. those are the mods that im puttin on my truck and then some. i would of loved to see his face after he learned that was his truck.

Have yall tried replacing the output speed sensor on the trans. There only 20 bucks at the dealer. It stopped my truck from shifting to 2nd for awhile at wot till I figured out what it was. There easy to put on. It's on the driver side of the trans. For 20 bucks its worth a try and they go out often.

Yep, that's the first thing I tried. It didn't help.
