I seem to have a lifter tapping when i do a cold start up but once the lifter pumps up it gets a little more faint sounding but you can still hear it, after a quick rev it will tap a little louder then quiet back down some. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am thinking if i go through all the trouble of putting new lifters in i might as well go with a new cam but then the next problem occurs I will need new springs but what the hell while i'm at it i might as well do new valve seals. So i'm almost debating on doing the head and cam combo. The truck currently has 72k on the clock. I'm thinking something around the lines of a comp 604 or krc 210. I would go with a 210x but my truck is still a daily driver. As for heads maybe i'll go with a set of 2.02 iron ram heads from clearwater cylinder heads.

funny how a simple little lifter tick on a cold start up can lead to a full top end (heads & cam) build. :jester:

when i pulled my motor for the first time it was just for a trans swap. next thing i know the motor is stripped down and getting a forged bottom end. $20k later i have a pretty mean 366, DFI, Built 518, Viper 3800, Gears & Locker........well, a race truck, LMAO!!!

well last year i had the tranny out to get rebuilt so i'm not going to have to worry about that issue again for a long while hopefully. But it would be nice to have a N/a 13.5ish truck. I'm looking for mid 12's on a 100 shot.

If you run headers, check the bolts before you go any further. That could easily be just an exhaust leak. They usually get quieter when the motor warms up, unless it's totally blown out.

id try flushing the engine with kerosene before a tear down. My gen 2 318 probably never had the oil changed in it. It lifter clattered at startup. I flushed the engine 2 times with kerosene and changed the oil pressure sensor... now the engine is silent at startup and runs like a raped ape!

i change the oil every 3k with synthetic. When i did my m1 install in january everything looked good inside with no oil sludge build up.

Was it doing it when you were at the track? I thought I would here somethin start up but it sounded like a exhaust leak to me.

Did you make it to the track friday?

Well at the track when we went it was tapping a little but has since gotten worse. I went to the track friday but an hour after waiting they decided to cancel the tnt b/c they could not keep the water from seeping on the track. I was kind of pissed , I went there got all ready, bolted up the drag radials, teched and was ready to run. I ended up just driving home on the drag radials b/c i didn't feel like changing them.
