maybe you blew the fuse for the factory amp?

no i opened the fuse panel on the side of the dash and all the fuses where good, and i even pulled out the radio box thing thats in the dash and all the wires connected to it where all good, the radio turns on just puts out no sound, so could the amp be bad and just simply need a new one?

I don't really know? I'm def. Not a radio expert, I think I would check and see if the amp has power, and maybe hook a known good speaker directly to the radio and see if the radio is putting anything out.

isnt the amp under the dash on the passenger side? i read that somewhere on here and i looked and all i see is the heater, and how would i do that with the speakers?

I've never actually see the amp, but I think it's behind the kick panel on the passenger side. As far as the speaker thing, pull the radio out pull a speaker wire off and hook a speaker directly to the radio

alright, first ill have to find out exactly where the amp is and if its easily or kinda easy to get to

There should be two blue wires on your wire harness for the head unit, you might have used the wrong one, I did when I put mine in, try the other blue wire first, its easier.

I mean everything was working for a couple months just fine, then outta no where nothing
But your saying pull the thing out of the dash and just flip flop the two blue wires?

If it worked before and you've changed nothing since, then no don't swap the wires.

Does the system work at all? Any signs of life from the head unit? Is the head unit the stock one or aftermarket? Do you have the Infiniti stereo system in your truck? If not, you don't have an amp to worry about.

If you have an amp, there's 3 fuses to check in the fuse box on the left side of the dash:

#13
#18

i have kenwood, with all 4 speakers around, and i looked past the passenger kick board and i have the infinity amp, everything worked just fine, then just one day bam, nothing, the radio turns on and i can switch stations and what not, just no sound, and i checked all the fuses on the side of the dash and there all good

Ive heard that hooking up aftermarket speakers to the factory infinity system causes problems because of the infinity tweeters, try unhooking them and see what happens

Unhooking the tweeters? How do I do that?

Take off the door panel and just disconnect the wires (might have to cut then put back together). If its not the headunit and it cant be the speakers, cause they are new and working, its prob the amp. Maybe the speakers arnt compatible or dont have enough power going to them. Just throwing ideas out there. Look at it this way, you have aftermarket headunit, aftermarket speakers, but a stock amp. Thats the piece missing out of the puzzle, id say get a better amp and if thats not it, at least you made an upgrade.

Alright thanks, anyone know how much better amps run?
Nothing fancy, just something to power the speakers

www.crutchfield.com

Use their website to help you figure out the system you want, then go find it on ebay for half the price.

just rewire the head unit directly to the speakers if you have an aftermarket head unit that well be more power than that crappy infinity or buy a four channel aftermarket amp that has about the same rms wattage as your speakers and run your power directly from the battery and run your rca and rms cable to the deck

dakotart59
12-02-2010, 09:44 AM
That sounds very confusing lol
I'm probably just gonna take it to a audio place because I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to that stuff, just wanted to find out what it was befor I spent more money then needed

You can make a bypass harness that will replace the factory amp. This will make the wire runs go directly from your headunit to your speakers. A member on here used to sell them. I wonder if he'll do a a run of them. I would be interested in one as well. I think he sold them for ~25 and they were plug and play.

I think the factory amp is said to be 160w but I am almost certain that is peak, and that it doesnt actually nearly do that in peak let alone RMS.

Well I do plan on in the near future get 2 10 or 12" subs, when I bought my truck over 2 years ago the previous owner had a box setup under the back seats
