Yukon 4.56 gears and the shop replaced the carrier while they were in there.

I'm going to need to lenghten the drive shaft and find a cross member for the trans.

That's not an upgrade...

I'd reconsider a transbrake on a stock Dakota drive train.

You'll need a whole different rear end...Ford 9" or a Dana 60. No c-clip eliminators for a 9.25.

I wanted to go with a transbrake but didn't, not worth shredding parts....Why do you think you need a brake...Especially on 2 ton truck??

Because I don't want to hold the brakes for a launch.

If you're runing a stock suspensiion you might be ok, you'll just sit there and spin while a foot braker leaves you in the dust.

BTW...You will need a longer drive shaft and a new tranny support.
You have a Club Cab, is that a one piece drive shaft?

The tranny support is easy, just install everything and measure away, and have your's added onto. No one sells one, SMR claims they do but don't trust them, I did and it was too short.

Be sure to check your pinion angle after the swap, I think the 727 sits lower than a 46RE....Thus angling your motor down on the tranny side. It looks like mine does, maybe you should check the angle of the motor before you pull the 46RE...Reference the angle of the tranny to the frame, not how it sits on the ground, the front end will be lighter with the 727...so it will sit differently. Maybe Martin knows if the rear tranny mounts are the same "height wise" as a 46RE.

You'll also need to notch the bell housing to clear the crank sensor unless Martin is doing that for you, and you will need to get the auto programmed out of your PCM...B&G can do that better than a SCT... Hemifever flashed the auto out of PCM so it would work, but the CEL never went away, so I killed the CEL bulb.

What shifter are you going with...? Don't do a reverse manual valve body unless you get one with a clean neutral.

And ...since you have 4.56 gears, I hope you don't drive it much over 50 mph....Other than the above, the 727 rocks

Thanks for good tips. I read your orginal 727 post and got an idea of what I am am working with. The driveshaft is a one piece and I will be sure to check the angle as well as getting it lengthen. Martin filled me in on most of the details and is also checking to see what tranny support will work. I'll be sure to decline the one from SMR.

Be prepared to be surprised....But the transbrake still worries me. I'd love to have one, I launch at 2K, anything above that it starts to push the truck, which is good if I shallow stage and hit it just right.

Nah nah nah nah I can take mine to 2400. If I even think about 2500 rpm it tries to walk.

Last I checked they cut you a new tube and weld on new ends. There is no driveshaft stretching. A single shaft that long is probably going to have to be 5" aluminum or something crazy like that.

Didn't you kill your 9.25 with a manual tranny?

mtlcafan79

Sorta. I broke a yoke and stripped two teeth off the pinion in seperate events.

I run a 5.5" aluminum one in my TKO truck with no issues and its 74.5" long iirc.

How quickly you forget the solution around the C clips, but most people don't need to get rid of them anyway.
