gut all the front drive line, suspension and transfer case out of a Durango R/T. make it so it's AWD only & beef it all up. then slap it under a Regular Cab Dakota R/T. 4.56's or 4.10's front and rear. could you imagine the launch w/ 275 M&H's out front & 325 M&H's out back on say, Dave D's motor? :drive:

not saying it would be easy but i think it's doable............ yes/no???

what about modifying a 4 wheel drive dakota chasis, wouldnt all the transfer case etc swap?

not sure, but i don't think they are AWD.

they arent, but why couldnt you swap the durango stuff on to it, the transfer case controls the all wheel drive

yeah, but it's not an R/T :jester: i'm suborn like that, hehehe

i suppose you could. just get a 4x4 RC Sport and do it. slam it to the ground.

OR- gut the entire drive train out of a Durango R/T and morf it into a GenII RC.

You could buy a 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9, my dad's will destroy my truck on the street from dig. :jester:

Just kidding, I know what you mean and it would be awesome. I thought the same thing a while ago, but realised for me at least, in a daily driver, it wouldn't be worth the rotating weight and associated fuel economy loss.

that's why i want a Jetta Diesel for a DD, :jester:

Seems like you could "Rob" the stuff from an SRT 8 Jeep.

Well there were some Dakota's that came with the AWD option on them. I know for sure because where i used to work, the vehicle they allowed me to drive was an 01 Dakota CrewCab with the 4.7 and the only options to select in the cab was High or Low. That was a fun vehicle to drive, but it lacked the power and torque, now if it had the 5.9 then that thing would be fun.

I did also drive a Durango R/T, and that thing was a blast to drive, fast off the line, heated front seats that were also leather too. Just a nice vehicle to drive all year around. But i would rather have the Jeep SRT8 instead though

That would be a sweet setup.

But there were AWD Dakotas, I think it was an option for '01+. That would probably be an easier swap. Not sure how much power it could hold tho.

I agree, put all the GC SRT-8 stuff on a stripped down RC, gen 2 or 3.

So, when are you gonna start building this beast? Will you have it ready for Nats?

In '01 there was an option for AWD... I have one with the 5.9...QC that is.It doesn't do to bad with only havin' a K&N FIPK on it.

For a stock motor the AWD or full time 4x4 is good. But the front axles of a Durango and or 4x4 dakota will not handle serious power. I have a 2K D and installed a custom built transfer case to handle the power but the font axle is the weak link now. So this winter I pulled it all out and cut the front axle out also. I lighted the D 300 to 400 pounds. Plus installed a new tranny without overdrive.
The transfer case I installed had full time 4x4 and 2 wheel drive. It could handle over 800hp thru the wheels. It has the gearing of a 1 ton truck inside.
Also another problem adding a transfer case and front drive shaft is it will rob you of another 15% on HP.
Sorry to knock this idea down, but I've been trying to do this exact thing you talking about and have scrapped the idea now and going 2 wheel drive. I'm going to let a set of slicks hook me up.
All I could think about is if one side of the front axles broke or jamed it would pull me into the wall.

That would be pretty cool. When I had the 98 GC AWD 5.9. That thing was sick off the line with stock tires , but after I put the procharger on it...Talk about neck break. LOL Id love to see someone do it.
