We didn't have a secretary for quite some time. Our new secretary is up and running now and membership packets will be going out soon. Keep in mind tho that she has a pretty big backlog to catch up on, so it might take some time. We do not have a club t-shirt at the moment, but it's something we're working on.

I'll be surprised if we get anything this year really. I think that's the biggest thing the club needs to work on. If you pay your dues, but don't go to the meet, what do you get??? Member benefits are pretty skimpy.

Ray, Amy is not longer the Treasurer, and if you could give me details of the check, I will track it down. In answer to the membership questions the membership cards were created in an old paint shop program that nobody has these days. I found the program and opened the old card file but changes to it weren’t easy, so I recreated it in MS Excel but still have a few glitches which I will fix this weekend and e-mail to the Secretary so packets and M/Ship cards can be produced. I have only just taken over as Treasurer and as has Bryan (Secretary) and we are trying to get things back on track. If anybody has any questions or needs answers e-mail me direct at mopar269@mchsi.com. Thanks, Ian

The t shirt might encourage more people to join, or renew. (i.e. make money) As it stands now, there's really no reason to do either one, unless you just want to donate to the club. I know that's harsh, but it's true.

A long time ago, Lori Lange (the original treasurer) setup a DRTC account with them. For every DRTC item that sells, our club is supposed to get a cut. I believe someone will have to monitor the site and collect what's owed to us, but they also can choose which items to sell with our logo on it.

Hell i'd buy some stuff to wear and try to get people to check out the site. A window sticker would be a good start for paid members and have it also where you can buy them if your not a member b/c some people are finacially unstable at the moment and can't afford a membership but can afford the sticker which may draw more memberships in turn. I'd also like to have a t-shirt represtenting the r/t brand b/c I don't have any.

Wow, couple more months and I'll need new ones again when I renew. Maybe on the membership cards, instead of putting expiration dates on them, they should just say "Member since XXXX" And just keep track on the secretaries database as to who is current and who isn't. That way the club isn't spending money making new cards for the same people year after year.

Well....not much, quite frankly. A letter explaining their problems keeping execs, 2 ID cards and 1 sticker. If we could get a "Rumble" issue online, that would be nice. Even if it was just quarterly, or even 2 a year. One when the club decides where the meet will be and one afterwards with the highlights.

Should probably screen the memberships and if they are within a few months of expiring, no need to waste money sending out membership packets, just too do it again in a couple months. Like Mine is due in Jan. Just wait until I renew again to send me my new stuff. And maybe by then you can have it switched over to "born on dates" instead of expiration dates.

Or just the Exec Board to address and correct it once and for all, then there would be no reason for these type of threads. It seems they are on the right track and getting it fixed now, but it's taken way to long to do it. And it's not like the problem wasn't known about. There just aren't enough people anymore willing to sacrifice the personal time it takes to take care of some of the DRTC stuff.

And there you have it....
I paid my dues back in April of last year and got an apology letter, a sticker and 2 cards around Thanksgiving. I honestly don't know why there even is a DRTC anymore.
Between the lack of substance for membership and the lackluster National Meets, what's the point?
Membership money and National meet fees are all that keep this club running financially. If the club does not return a membership package for the dues in a timely manner, nobody is going to want to send in any money. Me included.
If you leave the Nats on the table until 2 weeks before the event, then people can't plan to come to it and you will miss a LOT of fee money and attendance.
If the meet is held in the far reaches of the continent, then combined with another event, then a couple of important events dropped because we don't have enough money....well, surely you can see where this is going.
The worst part is; this is about the best we can expect, because while the current execs aren't exactly on fire, they are all we have. There is no one chomping at the bit to take the club over and bring it back from the dead.
Like a lot of things these days, the future doesn't look bright for the DRTC in my opinion.

Sorry, missed the new replies here.
I have to say, the last year or so has not gone the way I had hoped. Last two National Meets have had absolutely pitiful attendance, around 30 trucks for each. Last year's Nats had a good amount of notice, and a lot of initial interest, I think we had around 60 people say they were going, but then about half of that actually showed up. Makes it really hard to put on a good meet.
I understand the problems we've had with membership packets is a big factor, but hopefully we have a handle on that now. I'd still like to add a t-shirt to the packet, so folks are getting a lil more for their money.
If anyone still hasn't received their membership packet, please shoot Bryan a pm, his s/n is bryanrt360.

Record high gas prices didn't help matters.
Also, while Woodward woulda been kickass, just a TnT and a SnS isn't enough to make me drive that far (1,185 mi one way) and spend that kind of money (fuel, hotel, food, beer).
You need a FULL show (dedicated race track, auto x and SnS) and put it where everyone can get to it. NASCAR laps are a great bonus, if possible.
Ideally, we need an Atlanta style meet, held in Topeka, or somewhere close to center. (IMO)

Gas prices definitely hurt us, and the current state of the economy isn't going to help this year either.
Woodward was originally a full blown meet, but when we only had 20 people pre-register, we had to cut it back. The only way to put on a full show is to have 50-60 people pre-register. It's just gotten too expensive, and the club doesn't have the money to front for this stuff.
We may end up having to try a central deal, cause even moving it around doesn't work anymore.

This is really something that never should have been tried. From the outset, the club should have decided on one place and stayed put. That way we could have developed a deep base of operations, plus each year it would have been easier and easier to plan and execute. By now, it would have practically run itself. FYI, Heartland Park has a road course on the same property as the drag strip. There's an air museum next door that makes a dandy SnS area. HRP was the cheapest and easiest to deal with, as far as track rentals went. Y'all should really look into it.

01-21-2009, 05:23 PM
DRTC does not have the base to draw from to host its own private event ever again. I just don't see that happening. Any successful (read large attending) future meet IMHO will be a piggy back off of an established event. Although we all see what happened with Woodward. I'm interested to see what happens with Carlisle this year. Lots of talk, but we'll see who actually shows.
Maybe the DRTC should just take a year off from trying to host a meet to "recover" and make sure enough fore planning goes into the next meet. I think the biggest problem I see is a lot of the originals that did most of the planning and execution of the meets have left, and the people who replaced them just don't have the same drive or motivation to make it work as good. Maybe it was a poor turnover, I don't know. The idea for contralizing it has been kicked around since the inception, but it was always rejected so as to allow all members and fair shot of attending at least one meet that is close to them every few years instad of always having to drive to get there. Would we have been better off centralizing it from the get go?? We will never know. I don't think anyone could have planned for the record high gas prices of last year, or the economy collapse that will kill this years if it's even attempted. Maybe the different divisions shoudl just start using the money available to them to host mini-meets in their area, and then every few years hold one large National meet.

I think I've been more than patient. I know about the recent health issues, but this started long before that. Most people seem to have gotten their stuff in November. I've been asking since the middle of December why I have nothing. Other than a we'll look into it, not a thing has been communicated to me. I've PMed my user name, real name, address, etc. just in case there was a problem. Still nothing.

I hear ya and I understand why you're pissed. I paid mine last April and I was one of the ones that got mine in November. And I've got to say, even receiving the package didn't really make me feel any better. It's just an apology letter, a couple stickers and an ID card.
Yeah, I got mine in Nov and it expired in Jan, but of course my wife lost the envelope so I still didn't get anything that did show up. lol Wondering if I will have to wait another year to get my current stuff, or if they should just do away with the cards altogether. It's not like they do anything for you other than to show other people you are a member of something.

All the best.

I'm sure I'll get a renewal notice soon, it expires sometime in April. But since I never got anything from the last time around, even if it just a silly simple membership card, I don't see any reason to renew.
Honestly, I'd love to know why my packet was never sent out back in November like everyone else's seemed to be. I repeatedly inquired, even sending my name, user name and mailing address. Still nothing, not even a "Oh, we sent it but it must have gotten lost in the mail."
Piss poor way to run an operation if you ask me, even volunteers should at least respond to inquiries. Every time I asked it always seemed to go in a black hole - no response at all.

I got the same notice some time ago. I originally joined in 2000, but this year, I finally gave up and didn't renew. Used to be, you got a decal, membership card, discounts on group buys---something---but not anymore. I would really like to continue my membership, but why?

The main issue we have is people stepping up saying they will take care of something, i.e. Ian as the treasurer, and now he has no internet err sum shit. That is the main reason as to why nothing is happening. I have called this out before in the exec forum, but no one took any action, of course.

It happened to me in Jan.... I sent a check in to the club via snail mail but no one ever cashed it.
So when my renewal date came up,, I was automatically purged from the forum. It did not recognize my user name or password. I was stuck in read only mode for over a month. I got hold of Dave and he got me back on here.
But to this day, no one has cashed the check. In fact no one has been able to tell me whether the check ever showed up at the club's P.O. box.

I have tried to get hold of Ian as well... no luck yet.
IMHO... we really need a treasurer right now (and always). It will hurt planning for the Nat meet without one .
Hopefully we can address this problem at the next exec meeting.

Ya, probably won't ever happen. For all I know is Ian got deported back to Australia, and I couldn't care less.
IMO, Dave really needs to step up and take charge to get this issue resolved. He is the president after all.

From what I understand, Ian lost his job. That's a tough blow to go through.
In the time that he was here, he seemed really into the club and I thought he was doing a great job as treasurer. I'm sure he would still like to be our treasurer if he had internet.
That said,, We need someone to step up and fill his shoes, either temporarily, or permanently.
Being as we are both div. execs, I feel we have a responsibilty to address this issue with Dave.
I'm also concerned that people are STILL not getting their renewal packets in a timely manner. I thought we had that issue resolved, but obviously we don't. It's disappointing to hear "why should I renew my membership?" from people like Tom who have supported our club for years.
DAVE : Can we please schedule an exec board meeting ASAP?

That's interesting.
I wonder how Spammers were getting on here and posting at will?
I liked Ian. He really seemed to have a really good attitude about the club. I hope he's doing alright.

Well, you don't have to be a club member to sign up and post. So maybe my issue was not related to renewal. I found it kinda weird though that on the 1year anniversary (to the day), I all of a sudden had no access.
