I'm SURE that this has been asked a million times but after 2 hours of searching I cant find a answer. Not even a vague one.
I have a turbo Camaro so I am well aware of stock short blocks not being made for boost and that there isn't a safe number.
That being said is there a point that these engines seem to fail? With My Camaro I made 660 on the stock short block for about a year before I took it out and put a forged engine in to go bigger. With those it seemed to be about 600 was the area you wanted to stay below if you planned on making it a long time. Obviously tune has alot to do with longevity. But generally what is a good number to shoot for with a stock bottom end. Trying to weigh out options!!

Thanks
John

Completely stock bottom end? No pistons, rods, crank?

I think Duner did about 600, but he is the only one that I know of.

If you build it with forged internals than about 650, but that is a ballpark can fail sooner or later.

Depends on power adder. 500 with a supercharger, 600 with turbo or nitrous I'd say. Tune needs to be impecable.

You should be able to make 600rwhp with the stock internals.... if you sneak up on it. Mine was at that level for a long long time before I built a stouter bottom end. I just kept asking more and more from it and knew that I would have to replace it sometime. I chose to replace it BEFORE I found out what would fail first. I wanted to keep my block and heads intact.

With the forged rotating assembly I am back to pushing it. But still with the stock 2-bolt block, no hard fill, stock bolts. The stock parts are pretty stout. I think they are tougher than people give them credit for.

i agree with duner, i think the stock internals are stronger than most people think, it all depends on the tune

a friend of mine dyno05 is in the 10s, with ati procharger, cam, heads, tb. stall. but the bottom end is stock

Well that is great news. I have a 5.9 Limited GC and I needs to get it moving faster. Was takin forever to get info till one of my searches brought me here. Its amazing how against makin a Jeep fast the Jeep sites are. Gets annoying. Its either a srt8 jeep site or its a wheeling, off roading in their words, site.
I see alot of people doing headers. Are the stock manifolds very restrictive? I plan on changin the cam and intake before I do a turbo. Hopin to force enough air through the stock heads to keep me happy as I dont wanna spend 1300ish on them if I can be happy without them for a while.
Thanks for all the info guys!

Dana has always been faster than average. Even when his was stock!

If you are planning on doing a turbo don't touch the exhaust at all. Get a 4bbl m1, a stall and a little more gear for now. It will kinda be a dog, but it will eat the boost up. I would do the transmission before you boost it.

The 3.73s and 29" tires really kill the jeep compared to a dakota.

I think the crank is pretty stout but the pistons there is alot to be desired they come with a pretty crappy ring pack. I would rate the rods so-so. As for the block with main studs and nothing else I wouldn't really want to push it more that 600rwhp.

I will be foxing the tranny before turbo. Dot wanna ruin what little is reusable. I know I don't wanna put a better exhaust on it once I'll be doing a turbo, but I'm gotta use something as a starting point. In the lsx community the stock truck manifolds are a good starting point for a turbo kit. I am fabbing up the kit. Should be fun.

Thanks
