I need to get a list of which companies are still operational for rebuilding 46RE's, and if known what their typical prices/turnaround times are. I was hoping to limp along on the existing transmission while scraping up the funds to buy 99R/TMan's transmission/converter combo, but in the meantime he has chosen to keep them for his other truck instead. My transmission basically gave up yesterday, would only be good for one last drive to a transmission shop, if it would even make it at all.
I'd like to get something done before the Truckin' Nats at the end of this month, but unless someone has a pristine 46RE for 98-00 sitting in their garage ready to go, I dunno if I'll make it at this point.

i just got a brand new trans from APS Precision. I sent him back my old unit that he will probably tear apart to rebuild. Give Wayne a call and tell him that Joey from CT told you about him and that if he is going to rebuild my transmission that u would be interested in it. 408-205-8500 or 408-374-1217

Auto Magic in So. Prarie, Wash.
Complete rebuild: $1500.00 + tax. That's with the good parts too.
Turn around is about 5 days or less when the parts are in.
And I happen to have a pristine stock 46RE with 11,000 miles on it, out of my 2000. Boxed and ready to go. You want it ?

Once upon a time I used to preach APS far and wide... My 01 CC R/T's transmission literally split in half after a botched dealership driveshaft repair, and Dodge royally fucked me by voiding my factory & extended warranties. I had APS build me a new transmission & 2400 stall converter, was very happy with the support I got from him before the sale. Unfortunately that transmission crapped out about 1 month after his 2 year warranty expired, even though I had put less than 10k miles (most of it driving to Houston & Bremerton) and maybe 15-20x 15-second N/A passes on it during that timeframe - Houston DRTC meet, Bremerton DRTC meet, and one Truckin' Nats.
When the transmission started going south, I called Wayne for technical advice - unfortunately nothing he told me worked, and the transmission kept getting worse. Wayne said that he wanted me to ship him the transmission, so I had it removed and then shipped it off to him. Wayne knew that my truck was my only mode of transportation, and I have 3 kids - he said that he would rush the turnaround time (less than one week), and since the transmission had barely been used he would "hook me up" on the repair.
What ended up happening was a customer service nightmare. The transmission wasn't done in one week - it took over FOUR MONTHS. I would call him every couple of weeks, and I'd hear the same old crap - supposedly the transmission was apart for diagnosis, the shop suddenly got busy, guys are working on it, will call me back, blah blah blah. It turns out that Wayne didn't even open up the case for over THREE MONTHS - the whole time that he said it was "in progress" was total bullshit. Out of the blue he calls me up and starts tearing into me, trying to claim that I starved the trans fluid, and the inside was cooked. First off, I had this transmission running for TWO YEARS, and the trans fluid level was perfectly fine. After assuring Wayne that I had not abused this transmission in any way (as mentioned above, less than 10k street miles and almost no track time), he decided to get working on it - a couple of weeks later and it was finally ready to go.
In the end, my "hook up" cost me $1100 - that includes a new trans cooler and shipping, but certainly more than I expected to spend before I shipped it back for repairs. As far as I'm aware the re-rebuilt trans is running strong, the kid who bought my truck has been beating the living shit out of it for the past 16 months.
I won't deal with Wayne anymore because of all his lies during the re-rebuild, the total amount of money that had to come out of my pocket, the loss of my truck for such an extended period of time, and the nightmare I had to go through to borrow transportation from my ex-wife and other people just so I could get to/from work and haul my kids around.

Martin Saine. I just bought Dave's (Adobe) old 46RE that MSaine built for him and he rave's about it. I can't wait to get this thing installed. :rockwoot:
I also heard a lot of good things about Dr. Evil when they were located in my area. They've since moved to Michigan. I think I have their phone number here if you want to talk to them.

I talked to martin. A couple weeks ago about a trans. I have ran his stuff before. I liked it.
This is some prices he gave me. I got his email address if you dont have it.
For a 408 with nitrous (150 shot) we'd be adding clutches to the low, high, and OD clutch packs, steel 5 gear planetary set, high ratio kick-down lever, rigid bands, fluid flow modifications to increase cooling, custom programed valvebody, heavy duty stator torque converter. Trans good for 700+ horsepower. Converter good for 600-650 horsepower.
This trans and converter will cost you $2,500.00, + shipping + core.
Options for higher power handling should you decide to really pour on the power;
Billet input shaft and hub - ADD $550.00
Billet steel custom torque converter (unbreakeable! 1000+ HP capability) - ADD $500.00
Torque converter clutch lock-out until Overdrive - ADD $50.00
Hope this answers some of your questions, and perhaps generates new ones to ask!
Give me a shout if you have any other questions.
Best Regards,
Martin Saine

if you were to buy m saine's built transmission and install it before 4x4 truckin nats, take your current trans to 4x4 truckin nats, I'm sure I could haul it back to socal and drop it off to martin in Pasadena to save you some $ in shipping.

Do you still have that transmission laying around? Still want to get rid of it? I'm in dire need of one. If it is available, how much?
Though I'm in Honolulu, it'd be shipped to my shipping service in Hawthorne, CA. Shouldn't be too bad from Tacoma.

My wayne story is that I brought him a low mileage, non raced, perfectly shifting 46RE, asked him to put in a valve body, adjust the bands, and leave it at that. I was buying a converter too. I figured about $1000 out the door.
I get a call from him saying "I got it on my bench torn down right now, I can't put it back together like this, it is totally effed up, its been starved of fluid, and overheated"... this thing was working perfectly!! At the time I believed him. why shouldn't I?? I was 20 years old and had some money left over from a summer job. So I bought it, 2900 worth of trans and converter. He sold me so hard I think I swallowed the hook, line, sinker and pole. Can't believe I paid money for that crappy converter that he said would drop my 1/4 mile times. It didn't do anything. $2900 later and all I noticed was maybe a slighly higher top end speed in the 1/4 mile. Talking gnats whisker here.
Recently, I was going through a box of stuff, in it were the parts that Wayne said were messed up. the clutches had plenty of material left, everything looked fine, hell you could still smell the "sweet" of the fluid. It wasn't burned at all. He screwed me for another $200 by saying I needed a "hardened mid shaft" and that mine was scored. He uses all these fancy names for standard parts that are supplied by one company, his "company" didn't make them. His company is himself, in his garage. Granted he does have a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, he has a PhD. in Bullshit.
At least the transmission worked and didn't break in the 5,000 miles it was in my Jeep. I sold it for $1700 w/out the converter, which I sold for $300. Got some of my money back.
