Okay as some of you know I have been throwing out the possibility of submitting a formal proposal for the 2011 DRTC Meet in Ontario.

I am posting this as a feeler thread as to what interest there is on this board if we held a meet. Once again here is the basic location where it would be held about 1 1/2 hours if you crossed at Niagara Falls or 4 hours from Detroit/Windsor.

We could offer a possible tour of the Brampton assembly plant making the LX models. Drag racing... possibly an auto X but would have to look into that more so dont count on that happening. Show & shine for sure.

Basically i am looking for feedback on the following...

A) Are you interested in attending providing calendar date worked for you?
B) What are the key things you would be looking for at the meet?
C) Simply just to far away and no way you would attend.

Please do not turn this thread into previous threads with other locations etc being suggested on here. This is only a "Feeler" thread to judge interest before I decide to throw months of planning into a possible meet.

I would also look at controlling costs which is a big issue for everyone these days. So my goal would be a $50.00 + cost of Drag racing if so interested. Hopefully I can make ends meet on that sort of budget.

So lets get some comments coming interest or no interest pretty much that simple.

1) I would attened.
2) I would like to have a good time with other Dakota R/T guys, and tour the Brampton plant. Are there any brewery's close by? Brewery tours are always a good time.
3) Ontario is like 6 hours away, and i'm used to driving 9 + to Carisle every year.

I would suggest looking at the costs of private rentals/insurance/track availability first. Usually the insurance part strikes that down pretty quickly. Makes that decision pretty easy. At the most you wasted a few phone calls/emails, but it's good to know that info up front.

Private rental of the track during summer is not doable as they have events scheduled every friday, sat and sun. We could certainly work with the track and get ourselves booked into a Test & Tune day as a club and have a bracket event set up for us if that is acceptable to everyone? If not then is going to be a short lived discussion for Ontario.

I just emailed the track to explore options.

Would be something differen't for sure. If it is held in Canada I'll have to get my passport and I'm not sure how long that would take to apply for.

Right now regular passport service is 4-6 weeks. Expedited is 2-3 weeks. Summer time you can expect up to 10 weeks. First time passports are $110 application fee plus a $25 execution fee. If you want it expedited, add $60.

I will try to attend but might not be able to make it because of co-oping for school. Even if I can't make it, I will still pay the fees for the meet.

If I can get the time off, I'll drive up there from Texas. You have already hit the high points of what I would like to see in a meet. One thing you might have overlooked though....do they have Waffle House up there? :jester:

Another thing. How safe in Ontario? I know in Quebec, mostly Montreal, Cars are stolen within a few minutes of being parked at a hotel sometime. I've almost had a car stolen in Montreal before, and as a result I don't go into Montreal anymore.

Thanks Buddy! It would be great to see you guys again, haven't seen many of you even the Michigan boys for a few years.

I know we could put on a hell of a meet up here. I could draw help upon a couple of local members that post on here and a bit of support from the DRTC reps.

I know for many we may simply be a bit too far to travel, but i am sure we can make one hell of a meet for all those who attend.

Another thing worth mentioning is the huge LX club up here. They often get 50+ vehicles out to major events as they draw heavy support from their US counterparts. I would like to find a way to include them into a proposal as we could get a massive turnout if we went that direction.

Whats everyones thoughts on that as a possibility to share costs?

Not an issue.

I know of a DIRT modified team who had their entire double-decker hauler stolen just last year in Quebec. The thieves looted the entire hauler; we are talking a complete big block car, a complete small block car, 60 Keizer wheels mounted with Hoosiers, wheeled SnapOn tool chest (loaded), pit cart, two complete quick change rear ends, five carbs, couple transmissions, 30 shocks, etc. The trailer was eventually found, but it's contents were long gone.

I'm glad the possible meet location would be in a much safer Ontario location

Track Rental here is $50.00 per vehicle + about another $1,000 to cover track prep, medical staff onsite etc.

Likely would join in on a test and tune day which is only $40.00 per vehicle.

It has been a long time since I have been back to the homeland - wonder how the license deal works for me as my Ontario license expired in 2004.

$40 for TnT vs $50 for rental? Rent it!!

mtlcafan79

Divide that extra $1k by 30 trucks and it's now $83/vehicle to rent. That's too much IMHO.

Add in the cost of driving up there and it adds up quick. TnT is expensive up there.

Yep thats the problem they nail you for safety crews etc and for glueing the lane(s). So your well over $50.00 per vehicle.

On a test and tune day we could bracket race within our own division.
