Never, and it's funny you deleted it. I knew you would pull some move like that so I copied and pasted it to word.

Just a little history:
I bought the hood designed by the one and only "Custom Parts Designer" AKA Russ. It was decent I guess, got it painted. I don't paint so I paid a local shop to do it, I'll post pics below. Anyways, it came up at highway speeds. I was going a 70 plus mph and the thing ripped right from the latch, the latch assemble was still on the core support. It ripped right through the fiberglass. Other people had a damaged hood when they got it too, I remember about two threads with damaged hoods.

Here is the hood and since no one has a painted one on a truck here is what it looks like also:

Another side note: Russ, didn't even help find a hood at the meet. He disappeared. Thanks to the guys who found a hood in the swap meet and to the guy who helped get it on the truck. You know who you are if you helped, the only one who I don't think is on this forum is Andrew's father, thank him for me Andrew!



Okay Russ, stop playing games. You sent me this pic(it is below didn't want to stop the flow of text) and told me to make that bracket for you. I never did. I finally make one in solidworks and now you want me to cut you a pair. I said no again. That is Darrens kit, or Darrens kit originally but is now someone else's kit to sell. You now are saying you have a different design than that. C'mon son, don't copy another mans work to try to get a profit off of it.

I had time to cool off the rest of the trip before I got to the meet. I thought I would be nice to the guy and maybe he would take care of it, that was my game plan. It failed, I was out $50 bucks for a stock hood. Heck, I would of been happy with those cal-tracs he got for his 15 second ride. :jerkit:

I would hazard a guess that Russ (Mr. Custom Parts Copier), with the above tirade, has just sealed his doom on this forum.
Whether you manufacture the parts you sell or not, YOU as the sales Representative, are responsible to take care of all after-the-sale complaints that involve defective assembly or manufacture. Walmart doesn't make anything either, but they take care of all problems after the sale. Just because you didn't manufacture the hoods, doesn't mean you can wash your hands of the problems, pocket the money, and go on to your next rip-off!
Your responsibility is to refund the buyers' money or repair the defective or damaged product (exception-shipping damage due to carrier's fault)---THEN settle between you and the manufacturer.
YOU were the seller---period.

I was glad we were able to find him a hood and get it put back on his truck though so he wasn't driving around without a hood. Agreed - but this is flame wars as well not in a general forum area.

Also, I have a personal pet peeve (sp?) with people who misrepresent products they sell or the nature in which they sell them. This issue with russ will be dealt with not too far in the future...

That's what my understanding of the deal(s) with Russ and that particular manufacturer was as well. I looked up the hood on ebay and I'm pretty sure that seller is not Russ. May be his truck sporting the hood in the ad but I doubt he is the seller.

I got the very first set of CF door handles they were trying to make for us but I had issues with them and provided them my critique. Their offer to resolve the issues weren't up to my satisfaction but instead of bitching about them publicly, I just moved on with my life as it wasn't worth it IMO for a $35 transaction. I can make the handles work but it takes a lot of effort on my part to do so. In retrospect, I should've spoke up with a neg rep towards them and for that I apologize to all. Russ was not involved with the transaction nor did I expect him to be so I personally have nothing against him. I would like to hear him speak up about the knob dealio though as that just doesn't seem right. Unless there's more to it than meets the eye, that shoulda been a free How-To type of thing. I get that but still...it's too simplistic to overly profit from IMO. I'm going to post a tranny pan mod for free within the next few days and I'll make it a point to both illustrate the How-To so anyone with minimal skilz and tools can do it as well as offer to supply them the parts and a template to save them the effort of measuring and a trip to the parts store for a minimal charge.

Someone recently did this with the hood latch release mod for which I was one that bought into it. Not so much for the parts but for the appreciation that he devised the mod and shared the How-To.

Now he wanted to do a projector retrofit on dak-dur.com and low and behold, here everyone buy this, once you do I can have enough money to put my set together so you can see what they look like.....are you fucking KIDDING me????????? Then the people had to pony up deposits so he could order his set to show them what they put a deposit on.....that is a STELLAR way to go about doing business and making stuff.

The problem is; he works a LOT so he doesn't have a lot of extra time at the moment, but he does have a lot of contacts and I believe he will eventually find a contractor that will crank out the kits. After all, he didn't invest in them just to keep them from being made. lol.

I'm only losing it because I was about to sell a dirt bike for a few thousand bucks and then when I tried shimming the valves it wouldn't even fucking start. So I've been going crazy for about a week. I'm sick of tearing that thing apart, reshimming it, and putting it back together just to kick my fucking guts out and not even hear it purr. Fuck. I'm so fucking beat right now. I do more work on that bike in 15 minutes than I do at work 8+ hours every single damn stupid day. It is terrible. I'll get it running tomorrow, I promise. I'll just throw the old shims in that worked half ass. Half ass beats no ass and I've tried every damn other combination I can fucking think of at this point. This truck hasn't ever 'stumped' me really, this dirtbike is a whole different animal though. I'm using a feeler gauge, measuring it with a digital micrometer, measuring my shims with the same micrometer both old and new shims, doing some simple math and replacing the old with the new. And it is supposed to be within spec according to each time I do it. The only shims that work are the old worn out used shims that aren't even supposed to be within spec, yet somehow they work. But it kinda backfires/spits/sputters with them. So I'm really stumped. Whatever. I feel like we've really hijacked this thread now. Cool. This is GSM bracket for Gen II V1p0r calipers. That is the 4x4 bracket I believe below.

If you are such a standup guy why did you never resolve my hood issue? Why do I not have a refund? I never even got a fucking response let alone an apology. Difference is you did not pay russ like you would the dealer. You paid the company that was making and shipping them. So your analogy does not fit.

yeah - the only money I received was actually from the shipper(due to damage during transit) even though the hood was only wrapped in 1 layer of foam and 1 layer of small bubble wrap. They were great to deal with and said they had many claims from the hood supplier. Unfortunately the shipper ABF had to send the money to the hood supplier since they initiated the claim, those fucks kept the money for another 3 months. That drove me fucking nuts. Their reasoning was becuase I was demanding a refund on the hood - they were holding the money hostage. I called the 65th precinct in New York and told them what was going on. They were limited to what they could do(told me to file in small claims), but I told the fuckers at the hood shop I had called so and so at the cop shop and was initiating a mail fraud complaint. Whatever I said something worked and I had the cheque that week. In reality I never saw a dime from the hood shop, but I cut my losses when I received the damaged hood money. The quality of this hood sucks - it will never go on my truck(without serious rework) and will never go on sale on these forums as I would be too embarassed to sell this to a fellow club member.(except Russ):jester:

Worse than a group of women getting together to talk shit about their men. Russs obviously isn't going to be winning any vendor of the year awards, but to expect him to even have the means to make any type of amends, especially after the way he has handled everything else is absurd. You bought a hood from company X through a group buy set up by russ. You didn't buy the hood from Russ. Russ can't control what the manufacturer does or doesn't do, and I'm sure he picked the cheapest place to make the hoods in order to keep the prices down to where people would be willing to get in on his group buy so he could get the hood style he wanted. That whole group buy was a failure before it was even started. Just because the manufacturer pretty much told you to pound sand doesn't mean it's open season on talking shit about Russ. Why not talk shit about the manufacturer so others don't buy from the same company. This just wasn't over a hood. I was never going to post anything about what happened until russ started being stupid about the v1p0r brackets. He is mentally ill, trying to say he has the right to that bracket. The hood was just to show the history between russ and I. I think you had to be at the meet to really understand what happened about the hood. Anyways, he did not give me the wrong dimensions on purpose and he does not have his own design like he claims. It would be different if he just wanted one set for his truck but he wanted me to produce brackets and ship them to him so he could sell them. The very same ones in the pic on the first page. Like I said, he has dug his on grave with several other things as well, but to keep trash talking Russ over the hood even though it appears the company that made the hood is really the one at fault seems kind of pointless. Granted he could have handled it better and tried to be more involved, but after what the other guy said, I doubt the end result as far as getting refunded would have been any different as the manufacturer seems to be a bigger POS than Russ. IIRC the company that made the molds there in NY was not the company that actually made the final products.

Best I could gather was they were CHINA or there abouts products.

He had talked to me about doing doors and front fenders as well. I had asked about who was making the Molds and finished products. I don't rmember ever getting a name of a shop or company..

In the mean time I got in contact with several companies that actually do reputable work making molds and fiberglass / carbonfiber parts and they all quoted me about the same cost to start from scratch. I knew then something was off with the whole deal.

As far as all the other issues that became of the Hoods??? I have no clue about any of that. Last I heard of anything from tha whole deal was that the hoods had been received and ready to ship out to the Buyers.

The hood has no metal re-inforcement for the hood latch(ergo the flying hood). This would make a decent show piece(with some work) but that is it. I have attached some email correspondance to show the level of customer service Bayspeed offers

The best part is Darren is only a friend/relative of Bayspeed - not an employee, that was a nice fact to find out after I bought the hood
As someone mentioned earlier the hood actualy comes from China
The hood has no metal re-inforcement for the hood latch(ergo the flying hood). This would make a decent show piece(with some work) but that is it. I have attached some email correspondance to show the level of customer service Bayspeed offers

bad news - there is damage on one corner of the hood
and the quality is not as good as it should be

there are some scuffs, a bubble in the resin, uneven surfaces and the glass inner is loose and cut unevenly

He did receive the first hood produced, didn't he? and he should have gone over it with a fine tooth comb to see how it was built and if there was any issues no other hood should have been built or shipped till all the issues were addressed.

Since he was the original poster that created the "group buy" ,found the supplier and **cough** disigned the hood ,it is his obligation to make sure everyone is satisfied and to deal with all issues till they are resolved.If this was a shipping issue i believe its up to each individual to deal with that one on their own but this is a quality and design flaw and to me this should be a Russ issue now cuz he didnt recognize the issues with the prototype.

You do realize who you are talking about? He's obviously not a rocket scientist, and he only "designed" the look of the hood, not the construction. Pretty much he drew a picture, passed it around until he found someone willing to make it for the price he wanted and said build it, which they did.

I do and thats the reason i believe he is responsible, he didnt do his homework and sold people on a crappy hood. If a prototype was never made before the run i can understand but one was made and was excepted so to me it was his decision to go ahead with the hood and he should except the consequences for doing so. . So glad i bought a reflexxion hood. :D

I wanted one of the hoods also. But when he would never answer the question of whether the hood was carbon fiber or fiberglass with carbon fiber overlay, that was the deal killer for me. He was asked by several and would never really reply, just danced around the question. Glad I went with the Reflexxions hood instead.
