I left a stop sign with moderate throttle, truck shifted into 2nd then I floored it, it downshifted and before it shifted back up it bounced of the rev limiter about 4 times. I actuall let off the gas before it shifted WTF!! Any ideas, It's a completely stock 2000 R/T. Thanks

You may need to adjust the TV cable..

well try it form a stand still roll into first so u don't spin the tires and mash it down before it shifts second if it stays in first and bounces off the rev limiter the tv cable is probably a little tight.

Hi New here too

Can you get to a code reader and report any codes? Theres an issue with failed o2 sensors preventing the transmission from upshifting. Dont spend any money or make any adjustments until you do this please

When our truck was acting up, the codes showed a bad governor pressure solenoid, and a bad shift sensor inside the trans, and a cat temp error. The aftercat o2 also reports a "convertor warmed up" condition to the puter. When this doesnt happen the puter wont allow upshifts.

Weird huh. Replacing the o2 cleared up the whole problem.

A990 is correct on a few things.50% of the dakota/ram owners out there that had there trans replaced probably didn't need to.There is 3 things (and maybe more) that control the functions of our trans. The tv cable, trans govener pressure solenoid and shift module. If any of these (and its usually the tv cable or govener soleniod) are of by a little it acts like a bad trans.

i just got my rt a week ago and been having the same problem. i changed the fluid and filter and found a broken piece of something in there.

New here, so Hi. If it's not a bad governor pressure solenoid the "filter" or screen to the governor has some crap in it. In fact I would check the screen out first.

hey i've got the same problem going on right now to, but i have 2 codes up, one for the gov. pressure not being right and one for a bad o2 sensor. any hints on were to start?

Yes start with the wiring for the 02 sensor went through this a couple of weeks ago. The o2 sensor affects the governor pressure sensor when it shorts out. Once the governor pressure code appears tranny goes into limp mode.

and when the tranny goes into limp mode it will not shift? the problem is only between 1st shifting into 2nd. it will only shift when i completly release the throttle, but will downshift no problems from 3rd into 2nd. should i still start with the o2 sensor wiring?

What did this piece look like? May be the anchor for the front band.....
Approximate size: 1" x 3/4" x 1/4" ?

just took my pan off and i found my anchor from the band, def the reason for missing 2nd gear.

same issue with my 2000 Dakota RT- hits rev limiter in WOT before shifting to 2nd. Shifts are fine driving normal.

Just replaced Transducer and Gov Pressure Solenoid...no change...also adjusted TP cable...no change.

can A990 can tell me where the 02 sensor is located and how difficult is it to change out...this is worth a try before going to trans rebuiild...thanks

Took RT to Dealership today...diagnosed as a faulty valve body in trans...$1,275.00 to replace and warranty expired on June 28th...Chrysler wont assist...any ideas on the warranty....thanks

was that a DC or aftermarket warranty ?

you can get a MSaine VB and get it installed by a tranny shop for about 1/2 of that. And, you'll be much happier with it, in the long run.

I had the extended 8 year/80,000 warranty -(not sure if this considered after market?)

anyway my thoughts are now if Dodge Dealer replaces VB with factory part and other issues develop with tranny I at least got them on the hook for entire trans as they messed with it... thanks

Had Valve Body Replaced in trans today...shifts fine now WOT 1st to 2nd

Chrysler has not released any bullentins on this common problem, they are addressing shift issues on a case by case basis.

bad VBs were a common problem on 01 and early 02 trucks, FYI

To the OP (Original Poster): Do you have a stock transmission, or a rebuilt one/one with a shift kit in it? If the former, it's possible your trans could be going south on you, either the VB or one of the internal sensors. If the latter, chances are you need to do the resistor mod, which is putting a resistor inline with one of the PCM pins (pin 34 of the middle connector IIRC -- the procedure is in the FAQ folder in the Delphi R/T board).

To all others -- I don't think the O2's affect the trans sensors in the '00 trucks, I think it's only in the '01+ trucks that this is an issue. I've never heard of the O2's causing trans issues in the 98-00 trucks, but that's not to say I'm wrong...just stating what I've observed over the years.
