the original 360 not the 418:nana:
Finally tore it down and this is what I found. I blame the fuel cut and detonation lol

I would think if it was detonation you should see more piston damage, and not just a broken ring.

That is piston damage.
It's a broken ring land...
Typical when a hypereutectic piston gets too hot and expands in the cylinder, without sufficient piston to wall clearance.
How many times have we seen this on here?

Did you have detonation on that motor?

What's the cyl wall side of the ring land that broke off look like? Should see bad scuffing on that area perpendicular to the pin as most pistons are not "round" and are looser at the pin ends. I would also think the that the top ring land would look bad also since most heat is there before being transmitted through the rings to cyl walls, oil, wrist pin, rod, etc.
Running the engine cold can aggravate this also as the cyl will be slightly smaller since the coolant is removing more heat at a faster rate from the cyls.
Weak ring land IE inclusions, porosity...prolonged detonation...break

the walls looked fine

Ouch that's bad news my rt just started gettin spark knock after my new cam install. Can't seem to tune out the issue with sct and have no I idea what's going on. I've degreed the cam twice to retard the cam timing. No luck yet

yes
the walls looked fineThen it sounds like detonation hammered a weak point.

there were times when I had pretty bad detonation. I also hit fuel cut during full boost many many times. Live and learn :jester:

thats why my pcm limiter is set to 7500.. I have my msd set to 6500 and have bounced off that a few times now..

Im not talking about a revlimiter type a fuel cut. Im talking about too much boost with stock map sensor causing a fuel cut around 4200 rpms.
