Here you go. As you can see, the console doesn't get hacked at all. and no new holes need to be drilled in the floor. Making the install completely reversable. I took it one setp further and removed all the column linkage, and replaced the column cover with oner fron a manual tranny Dakota. Mine is an '02, so the shift indicator works perfect. Earlier models would lose that function. The bracket is made form 1/8 mild steel, 1.5" wide. The button on the shifter works my OD like a champ. Those are SRT4 seats, under the black towels. :rockwoot:

It looks wierd but amazing, the way you have it mounted is no way ive ever seen. ive always wanted a pistol grip type shifter in my truck.:woot: Like how you swithed the cover.

It gives the appearance of "floating" over the console. Part of that was by necessity though. Mounting it flat to the floor would've rendered the connsole totally unusable. That, and clearance with the dashboard was a huge issue. As it sits now, 1st gear is all the back, with the handle verticle in the air. It's in park, the way you see it there. It looks a bit weird until you go to use it. It falls naturally right where your hand would lay. In retrospect, the ball end 1/4 stick(with the button) would allow a bit more mounting flexablility, but the pistol grip and Mopars just seem to go together so naturally.

try and figure another way to use that shifter, with that console, can't be done. Looks no more ghetto rigged than your underhood pix.

I would get a different console. Some things just aren't "meant" to fit. But like I said, just my opinion.
BTW, thanks for the compliment.

Why towles over the seats?
Got pics of them? I've been thinking about doing SRT4 seats in mine as well...

When a seed pops or the head falls off your spliff, you're glad those towels are there :rockwoot:. Got a no drill way to mount those seats too, Eveything I did is easily reversable. I don't think this thing will ever be worth anything, but I can but it all back to stock quite easily.

They went in nice, didn't they. One of the easiest "bolt on" mods I've done. I've had my entire interior reupholstered to match the material on the side bolsters, came out great. Special Props to Darren @ Sidewinder Customs :hail::biggthumpup:

The pistol grip shifter looks great! I want one. I have a 01 rc and was concidering this install, but building an entire center console for the shifter and intergrated box for maybe a 10 or 12 sub. What needs to be made or modified to make one of these aftermarket shifters work in our trucks?

I just built that bracket for it. I picked up the stock mounting holes for the console on the floor, it was a no drill install. I'll build a bracket for anyone who wants one, but I'm not doing it for free. As far as the ghetto rig comment earlier in the thread goes, you have to see it in person. It's a really clean install. I hemmed and hawed and redid that thing 3 separate times before I was happy with the end result. Hell it took me 3 days of looking at it and 10-15 different cardboard templates before I transferred the design to metal

thanks for the reply, I was wondering what the step by step was for the shifter install as far as making or modifying any of the stock transmission or aftermarket shifter parts, removing the column shifter, wiring the OD on/off switch. I've installed B&M and Hurst auto shifters before, but was wondering about the particulars of our trucks. Thanks

I have a similar idea, except i want to fiberglass the bezel on the center console, and make the shifter come out of there, the same way. Basically mount it inside the console, where yours is.

I took the easy way out and cut the two smaller cup holders out. basically lopping the front of the console off. I filled it with epoxy and then sanded and painted it. It worked out well for me. Yours will turn out much better though. :goodluck:

The swing angle of the shifter sort of made me do it that way. Otherwise I would've had to ditch the console entirely. But it was that shifter or nothing, for me. So, I made it work. It actually works quite nicely ergonomically. And, I still have my console.

nice thing about that console is that the whole center bolts in and out. That way, if you cheese it up, it's easily replaceable. I bought an entire second console, becuase I didn't know how bad I'd be hacking the stocker. My original one is pristine and wrapped in bubble wrap, in the garage. Turns out, I didn't need to hack things up at all. I do miss having the big cupholder though.
