I'll have to admit that ever since Kc_Rage49's (Ken, President of DakUSA) truck got stolen, stripped and burnt to a crisp, it has really bothered me just thinking what I would feel like if my truck was stolen. My brain has been spinning and have been spending a lot of time looking at the FSM at wiring for the starting system of my truck and have come up with a way to DISABLE the starter with a simple flip of a switch.

You will need:
1. 10amp mini fuse
2. 10ft of 18ga speaker wire
3. On-Off toggle switch
4. Fuse holder
5. Heat shrink strip
6. Soldering Iron
7. Heat gun or cigarette lighter

I mounted my switch inside my truck within easy reach but I will not tell you or show you where it is because that would defeat the purpose of the kill switch. I suggest you mount your switch anywhere you want that is out of sight and somewhere a thief would never think to look and then keep the location to yourself.

With the switch mounted and the wires connected, run the wire to the fuse panel inside the truck. The starter fuse in my truck is in the #12 location in the panel but yours may be different. Once you locate the fuse, remove it and proceed to break it apart and remove the 2 contacts that insert into the fuse panel. Solder one of the fuse contacts on the end of either wire coming from your switch. Solder the other wire coming from the switch to one of the wires on the fuse holder. Solder the other fuse contact to the other wire coming from the other side of the fuse holder and insert the correct 10amp fuse in the holder. Heat shrink to cover all the solder joints.

Insert the 2 contacts back in the fuse panel.

With the new switch in the off position, when you turn the ignition switch to the start position, everything will look normal on the instrument cluster but the starter will not engage. Flip the switch to the on position and everything is back to normal and the starter will engage.

I realize that if a thief wants to steal your truck bad enough, he WILL figure out a way to get it but this simple little mod may just make him have second thoughts and he'll go look for another car or truck to steal. You may end up with some damage due to the breakin but a least you'll still have your truck.

This mod works perfectly on my '01 Dakota R/T but your truck may be different. Install this mod at your own risk!

I created the design and I'm passing it along to you free of charge. If it saves only one truck from being stolen, then my time and effort has been worth it.

ENJOY!!!!

ive been toying with the idea of an RFID sensor with a 2mm range and tag.. put the tag up to the sensor, truck starts. no tag, no start. haha, i got all kinds of cool shit at work.

I did a similar thing ; just wired a toggle switch between the wire from the ignition switch to the starter relay.......

Great idea, but I have a suggestion. Since the fuse panel is so plainly visible to thieves (if they have the driver door open) I would suggest interupting the wires on the backside of the fuse panel instead of hacking apart a fuse on the front to wire your switch inline. Then the fuse panel will look normal if opened.

Want to be even poorer? Just steal your ASD, starter, or FP relay from under the hood. It'll never start then...

Yeh, Ive done this before in shady areas, I don't think most thieves carry relays, lol.

my moms prius has it... not sure if its the same technology- but as long as ya got the fob in your pocket- the pushbutton start works. no key needed.

It's much easier to just lift the hood and yank the starter and fuel pump relays. Plus there's no jerry rigged wiring involved.
