What is the deal with the black paint from 2000 R/T's???? I've seen several trucks like mine with the same problem... Was there a recall??

Whats the problem? You did not specify on what the problem is that you are having on 2000 R/T's. So, more explaining would be great if you want some help on this issue that you may be having?

You too? Welcome to PX8 disease, aka clearcoat cancer. 98-00 seem to be the affected years. You can thank the EPA and their wonderful laws for changing the rules on paint for that one. Next stop, $4,000 paint job. You've gotta sand it all off and start all over again.

I've got an '02 R/T and had the same issues. Finally had to paint the roof last summer.

my 98 has it. Its gotten really bad lately.
Though under all that cancer is a really nice matte finish. :D
My problem may just cure itself! :D

YUP...YUP... that's the problem. On the hood, both door tops and fender. So it is the clearcoat. That would mean I could wax the shine back out of the matte layer to hold a temporary shine until I can Paint it. If this is the case I should only have to replace the clearcoat, correct??

Thanks guys.

Yup, mine is starting to do that on the roof. I have been working really hard on trying to make sure the paint on my truck lasts, but I seriously doubt that it will. I looked into getting a really good paint job (I am picky as hell on the quality) and I have seen cost upwards about $6000, including some minor repairs on the body, redoing the engine, etc.

I am still waiting on my refund from GM's bailout, especially since they are 5 years ahead of schedule on paying back their bailout loan.

I just had to have mine repainted a few months ago. the clearcoat on the hood, front fenders and doors was bad. I asked about just having them replace the clearcoat and they said it would be a quick fix and wouldnt last very long. So i had most of the truck repainted and the other parts blended...definatly makes the truck look better:D

$6k for paint? Really?

If we say $1k for materials
$5k labor / $100hr / 50hrs to paint a truck?

I've got the same problem. When I bought my truck, the roof was re-done, as well as the hood and fenders. It still has the cancer under the windows and above the doors. And luckily, I know a few guys that do incredible paint-jobs, so hopefully I'll get a hook-up this summer
